I think we're getting too hung up on the word "UFC" here (although, in fairness, I used UFC in the title of my post as an example). Let's forget the UFC for a moment, and say we were able to have one canopy organization (like the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS and every other major sport in the United States) that manages major boxing events. Perhaps a better example would be something like the PGA and WTP, which are single-entity organizations that manage worldwide golf and tennis standings, respectively. These organizations are not limited only to American athletes, yet they have the clout to recognize legitimate world champions while simultaneously hosting/coordinating/mandating the golf and tennis events in which these athletes will participate throughout the year. Why is that type of organization (a single, recognized entity akin to the WTP or PGA that handles all rankings and matchmaking between ranked opponents) for boxing be considered a terrible idea?
If they tested every boxer with USADA nobody would be left competing besides Floyd who knows how to use an IV
Not a terrible idea at all. What you're suggesting is a central governing body that organizes everything. Unfortunately, this requires money. This is how the UFC is so popular as it pays very little to fighters and uses the money to build their organisation and promotions. For boxing, it would require for boxers to be paid little, which I am not for. Boxers get paid a lot, but they deserve the money. No other sports can display the dangers of boxing. Every fighter risks their lives when stepping through those ropes. Boxers pay should not be cut for a central governing body. Anyway, it will never work. It's too late as there are too many promoters who will just buy TV time and pay fighters more money. The fighters will fight for the promoters who pay more. It's a nice idea though, would love that if it didnt effect the fighters pay.
one idea would be for all the major orgs to merge into one entity that would govern the 90% of the "sport"...never happening though..
The obvious massive pro is the best usually fight the best. But the UFC treat their slaves abhorrently. It makes you sick when you read into it White and the Fertitta's are among the biggest most greedy scumbags in sport
A quick trip to Sherdog shows that these were some of the big fights that never happened in mma. There were a lot more of them, but these were the ones I saw kept coming up the most. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Randy Couture Jose Aldo vs. Anthony Pettis Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva Anderson Silva vs. Matt Hughes Josh Barnett vs. Fedor Emelianenko Condit vs Daley Diaz vs Mayhem Jones vs Dan Henderson Brock Lesnar vs. JDS JDS vs. Alistair Overeem Anderson Silva vs GSP or Jones Lytle vs Condit Cro Cop vs Couture Sakuraba vs Rickson Gracie Tito vs Dana Gus vs Moose Fedor vs Lesnar Carlos Condit vs Matt Brown I'm also seeing a lot of references to canceled events UFC 151, UFC 176, UFC 200 fighters getting injured, getting popped for PED use, etc. In particular, Jon Jones seems to come up for that stuff a lot. As for allegations of outright ducking, I'm seeing: Tito Ortiz vs Chuck Liddell Ronda vs Cyborg Conor ducking FW Bisping ducking MW top 10 Gus ducking the LHW top 10 Fedor ducking UFC Anderson Silva vs Lyoto Machida Woodley vs Wonderboy I'm seeing a list on sherdog about the great mma fighters who never even competed in the UFC: Kazuo Misaki Paulo Filho Sergei Kharitonov Igor Vovchanchyn Ricardo Arona Megumi Fujii Ben Askren Cristiane Justino Shinya Aoki Fedor Emelianenko This raises the specter of a question: How can the best fight the best in the UFC if some of the best never join the UFC? Indeed, it seems like there are many top fighters who fight for rival promotion companies from World Series of Fighting, to Bellator, to One Championship. Their promoters put them under exclusive contracts much like the split between HBO, Showtime, and PBC, which hinders major fights from getting made. Ben Askren is with One Championship Will Brooks is with Bellator Patricio Freire is with Bellator Cristiane Justino is with Invicta Justin Gaethje is with World Series of Fighting Phil Davis is with Bellator Jake Shields is with World Series of Fighting Michael Chandler is with Bellator Marlon Moraes is with World Series of Fighting Rousimar Palhares is with World Series of Fighting after being kicked out of UFC This all suggests that the mma world is a lot less unified than we are lead to believe. It further proves that there is a lot more talent outside of the UFC, making it less likely that the best are always fighting the best there, instead of just the best available.
If you want to yap about UFC then you should be on an UFC forum. * Mod, please delete or move this garbage thread.
You turn every thread in to trash with your IQ of 85, so NO, your request wont be followed through. -ESB superintendent
It's an American thing. Nobody in Europe cares about UFC let alone has ever heard of it before. Everyone here has heard of Evander Holyfield. Nobody has ever heard of any UFC 'champion'.
i think both sports would benefit from contracts no bigger than 3 fights, with single fight contracts being the norm. fight results would be the primary source of promotion and promoters would decide on an individual fight basis, how much they want to spend on promotion to get the return they are looking for. this would end the protected fighter culture, because every promoter will want the best fights possible on that very limited contract. it also puts rival promoters on a very even playing field. i think boxing and ufc would both benefit from a little cross promotion. lots of ufc fans have learned to appreciate the beauty in strategy and technique from watching mma, and are better prepared to appreciate a top level boxing match. they have seen many times, how superior boxing technique can make all the difference in a close match.
UFC is a promotion..............you only want to have 1 promoter in boxing? That's stupid, that's what make boxing a truly global sport.
don't forget Karelin, not a mma guy because the gracies did everything possible to keep him out of early UFC's. good post bandeedo
The way boxing is run is a complte f****. 4 or more world champs per weight class, the best fighters often avoiding each other, BS catchweight fights for a world title (WTF is that BS). Imagine if a UFC champ won a title and defending it demanding his opponent either come up or down to a catchweight. I love watching boxing when the best fight the best but the sport is a complete joke and corrupt to the core.
