I thought Bendo just slightly edged him from the third round on. It was such a close fight that I wish we could see a rematch sometime soon. I don't think it was controversial though.

If they'd gone at it more, Melendez would have won clearly.

    lol

    That's what I was thinking.

Thanks for a fun day of fights, all. From Fury/Cunningham to UFC on Fox to Canelo/Trout it was a great day to be a fight fan.

Kind of surprised that tonight was Matt Brown's first time earning a "of the night" bonus.

I thought Melendez won the fight. It seems Bendo has the rub with the judges.

Really? No ****? That's... pretty crazy considering the fights he's been in.

I had Rounds 1&2 go to Melendez

    3&4 to Henderson

5 was sort of a toss-up in my view, at the time of watching the fight.

To say Melendez clearly would have won if it had gone on is just naïve.

Oh, and some food for thought about one of the judges tonight about the Main Event:

    Interesting.

Close fight, but I gave it 3-2 to Gil. 1, 2 and 5 to Gil. Melendez was the more patient, strategic and calculating fighter early on. Hendo upped the tempo and along with leg kicks turned it around, but towards the end of round 4 Gil hurt Hendo with a number of body shots, continued it into round 5 and did the better work.

Weirdly, I felt that Bendo would get the decision, just like when I felt Frankie had won but wouldn't get the deicision.

Melendez clearly has great preperation and a much better fighting brain than his team mates. The Diaz brothers offer him great boxing sparring and grappling independantly, though they choose to use their skills and fight stupid. Likewise, Shields must offer him great grappling though he is a rather awful striker (but much improved). Gil puts the striking and grappling together with a strategic approach and showed against Henderson that he is a very well rounded fighter.
