    FIVE TO WATCH:
    Michael Nunn – May 1991, IBF world middleweight title
    Toney struggles to pin down the fleet-footed southpaw Nunn in the early going, falls behind on the cards and then uncorks a Hail Mary left-hook on Nunn’s jaw in the eleventh round. Moving quicker than he’d ever done before or after, Toney set about finishing Nunn with anything he could land and did, [url]winning[/url] his first of many world titles in the process.
    Mike McCallum – August 1992, IBF world middleweight title defence
    The slimline version of Toney waged two wars with McCallum as a middleweight and then completed the trilogy, bizarrely, as a cruiserweight. Each of the three fights were close and, following a drawn first bout, Toney received the benefit of any doubt in the rematch, snatching a decision from the crafty and clever McCallum following 12 stellar rounds of artistry.
    Iran Barkley – February 1993, IBF world super-middleweight title
    Toney arguably never looked better than when covering up, shielding his chin, slipping, sliding and wailing away with slashing counter-punches to the disfigured face of too-tough-for-his-own-good Iran Barkley. A virtuoso display that landed Toney his second world title, the nine-round mauling of Barkley remains one of the most punch-perfect displays of the modern era.
    Vassiliy Jirov – April 2003, IBF world cruiserweight title
    Vintage Toney returns, this time as a cruiserweight, to school and outpoint the unbeaten Jirov over 12 rounds. The long-time IBF cruiserweight king had no answer to Toney’s cunning and slick defensive skills and was eventually dropped and beaten up by the former middleweight champion.
    Evander Holyfield – October 2003, non-title heavyweight
    Heavyweight Toney emerges and shocks the world by chopping down and stopping Evander Holyfield in nine frighteningly one-sided rounds. Maintaining mobility and [url]hand[/url] speed despite moving through the weights, Toney added a late classic to a career chock-full of dazzling performances.

    what the UFC is trying to do is build up this **** storm so that when/If Couture wins they can say "See told you, boxers can't do ****, this is real fighting" or soften the blow when Couture loses.

    All great fights, I love James Toney, ATG for sure. His defensive skills are incredible.. He is going to get his ass kicked though.

    i would say that 80% of MMA fans have no idea who Toney is.....they dont know **** about boxing .... number could be higher....but losing to a 46 year old wrestler (which he will ) will be bad for boxing

    I wish the world would stop referring to the Nunn fight in this way. Toney was not getting schooled and then landed a haymaker out of the clear blue sky! He had won the last 3 rounds leading up to the stoppage, he had already turned the fight around through skill and will before the decisive punch landed! :fire

    Toney clearly won the 1st McCallum fight and it was one of the best fights and best boxing displays I've ever seen. It was a better performance from James than the 2nd fight was. That should've been noted.

    I like their description of the Barkley fight, but again I would include the st Sam Peter fight instead of the Holyfield fight as evidence of Toney's greatness. Holyfield was a corpse that night, but Peter was the consensus no.2 hw in the world at the time, and I think James won that fight by a couple of points. Beating up the ghost of Evander is not as impressive as going toe-to-toe with a big prime heavyweight powerpuncher and outfoxing him.

    Or the Roy jones fight:lol:..

    Toney is not gonna beat Couture:-( sorry to bear the supplier of bad news...

    Did you see the Oquendo fight, or the Batchlader fight when the roided freak, looked 50 in the ring...

    I guess you didn't see the 2nd Peter fight when Toney's weak ass punches making Peter laugh,,,...
    Toney can't seem to fight at heavy without roids:deal to little has **** for power, can't wait for Couture to kick his ass..

    Just wait...Toney will lose and UFC fans will say it's proof that top MMA fighters beat top boxers e.g. "Prime Fedor would murder Prime Ali." :lol::lol:
