July 19 could become a crowded night for mixed martial arts.

The UFC is currently planning an event that Saturday night to be televised live on Spike TV, Sherdog.com has learned from multiple industry sources.

The proposed event would take place the same evening that popular clothing line entrepreneurs Affliction will make their foray into the pay-per-view market with "Banned," its first MMA event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Zuffa's impromptu event, which is being pulled together on five weeks' notice, is tentatively scheduled to be held in Las Vegas.

Studied strikers Wanderlei Silva and Brandon Vera have been approached to clash in a light heavyweight main event, though other combinations of one or both of these fighters are also being considered.

    Source: Sherdog

If they can pull it off that will be one sick main event, especially for a Spike tv card.

Haha. Looks like Zuffa aren't just going to let Affliction just roll into the business. They're looking to make it as hard for them as possible.

Yeah, I knew the UFC will make it difficult for Affliction sooner or later but I wasn't expecting something this soon. Lets see what kind of card they can put together in 5 weeks notice.

Hopefully it will be a good card, but 5 weeks sounds like too short a notice for me. Silva vs Vera would be a quality stand up battle. Definately a KO there.
Unfortunately we probably won't get the Affliction card in the UK so another good thing is that the UFC card should be on Setanta.:D

haha , you know why they're doing that right ?....Cause deep down they know that for the first time in years , there's a possibility for this new org to make a huge impact.

So they want to kill it and not give it any chance whatsoever. and the best way to do that it to OF COURSE have a ufc event on the 19th.

it's quite simple , either it'll work or it won't...if people are ****ing dumb enough to ignore affliction's card than so be it.

Hmmm....Affliction with the BEST HW fighting that night, or UFC where the main event is a fighter that many felt is past his prime and "FINALY" got a win. Well, for me to pay for a PPV it has to be a big card. I am getting the Affliction card. I am down on the UFC and that is because of Dana "Please look at me and not the fighters" White.

What a bunch of crap. I've heard rumors that they would put Brock Lesnar for free on Spike. But i still think people will watch the better fight instead of the free UFC.

How does this help the fans.....or the sport Dana? Just answer me that question! No ****ing way I'm getting the UFC....Fedor vs Sylvia is better then any fight UFC can put together by July 19 anyway, unless GSP/Penn step up to the plate but we all know that aint happening.

Sadly I think more people will end up watching the UFC event. I think only the hardcore fans will watch the Affliction over UFC. As good as the Affliction card (I doubt UFC's card will be better) is they don't have many big draws and they will be going up against the big UFC brand. Also the fact that it will be free on Spike really helps. What is the price for the Affliction PPV? As Grievesy has pointed out, us guys in the UK don't have a choice.

Stop whining. Watch the Affliction card, tape the UFC show. That's what I'll be doing.

To be honest, it doesn't matter for me because I'm just going to have to watch both shows later. I just can't be bothered to stay up to the early hours of the morning. The problems with living in the UK when all the fights happen in the states.

Yeah at times it can be a bit of a pain staying up late, but its great we now have the option of watching UFC live.
