I don't understand why this fight hasn't hit the ground yet. what is Shields hoping for? A Diaz brother run in interference?
Both men are underwhelming thus far. GSP cautiosly outboxing the man with some of the worst standup in MMA, and Shields looking totally disinterested when he gets his hands on GSP and throwing that God awful kick. Said something about 'not Fighting hard yet'?!? Maybe Shields does have a gameplan (maybe I misheard???)
I have no doubt Shields is simply sticking to a bad gameplan he's been given. When he gets startled he tries to wrestle but he's ineffective, but Georges is doing his same ol plan. He might pick it up in the next 2. Jake had been handed the stupidest gameplan ever, and look for a GSP UD or knockout in 4/5. I blame Jake's corner. The next two rounds are pure Jake Shields against GSP and his corner. He has nobody in his.
This is the fight where GSPs safety-first approach finally turns me against him. His fighting skills are all applied to stop himself getting hurt because he's scared.
Jake doesn't have the ability to slip the jab and shoot for the single. This fight would be completely different if he wasn't such a f'n robot standing.
