What about the snooker world championships being on BBC? What does that mean for boxing?

It's the Brit boxing forum, or at the very least, a boxing forum. All else in the Choi thread, especially if its about UFC which is super gay.

 

This is true.

It's only so long before a genuine 'feeder' league crops up and does well with guys cut from the UFC being used to gauge prospects, of which there will be too many for the UFC to accommodate now, especially within a couple of years.

a. One of these hot prospects becomes a star/b-league creates a star, and gets paid enough to not join the UFC.

b. the UFC continue to give even their biggest stars way, way less than half a mill', and one/couple of them goes to the aforementioned 'b league' and the lines between major and minor leagues are blurred again.

I'm looking forward to seeing how ONE FC gets on.

 

It's all very well signing a 90 million dollar a year deal, but one boxing fight can make close to that. The biggest boxing events are still far superior and thats the reason things like this don't make sense for boxing.

Fact is, as this thread shows, boxing has the historical basis to keep a lot of existing fans sweet.

It's attracting new fans, or 'this generation' as Dana puts it (and the next) which is the problem, because one day we'll all be dead.

I 'prefer' boxing, it's where my head and heart is. But, enjoying all combat sports, I like MMA as well. I enjoy both of them, no different to me enjoying Muay Thai, or other sports such as football, or cycling. I've got enough time to watch all sorts.

Agree with that mate, at the minute the UFC can do as they please especially after buying out Strikeforce and merging WEC, they really have no competition at the minute other than Bellator which i don't rate and Dream who seem to be in financial troubles for ever. Seems a few fighters are coming over this way like Nate Marquardt and Escudero both mid carders in the UFC before the cut.

Yep can't wait to see One FC the first card doesn't have the names but under pride rules it will be good viewing. Not looking forward to seeing knees to the head on the ground that **** makes me cringe when watching it but it beats lay n pray fighters.

 

Agree on Bellator. They should just ditch the tournament style and put on stacked cards.

Lombard however, is worth watching :deal A Judo-Tyson ;-)

ONE FC is a new rule set actually: knees, head stomps AND elbows on the ground :yep These guys have serious financial backing, I think they will pick up a lot of good fighters as Strikeforce becomes obsolete. Interesting, hope it kicks off.

It's no secret the cage/unified rules=favouring wrestlers. I think the UFC will make a few tweaks in the next few years, dunno what, but they'll do something, evolution doesn't counteract the truths of balance, and the 'UFC style' favours wrestlers, simple as.

Pride rules would rectify this quickly ;-)

Exactly what I just said, since we're looking at this economically and how it affects boxing. Well, 90 million dollars in boxing which is what this deal is worth per annum...doesn't go that far.

 

UFC will also do **** loads of PPVs as well as this network deal. But I see your point :good

Bellator is of course interesting....but not enough. Askren is horrible to watch IMO.
