I know there have been rumours for a while but I thought it wouldn't happen. Will be interesting to see how much the UFC pays him because he must have been on a lucrative contract while he was in K-1. A quality addition to the UFC 185 division, looking forward to see how he does. :good http://uk.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=18125
Great addition to the UFC Middleweight division. Let's hope that he performs, unlike a certan other new high(ish) profile MW signing.
Looks like the UFC is gearing up to make a play for the Asian market.. A show in Japan or Korea can't be too far away
On paper it looks good but most of these fighters from out of the country are coming over to the UFC and struggling.
Im actually not excited, I dont get this move, what did they see in Akiyama. Besides that impressive KO over Kang, hes beaten cans. Hes not young, so are they bringing him to do what again? The man cant even speak english
Didn't you read the 4th post on here? Here is a good article worth checking out. http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/ufcs-akiyama-a-key-to-other-asian-market-16345
"The deal will see him have four fights during the period, and make $29,000 a bout. In addition, if he wins, $3,000 will be added to his next fight money." Source: http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/sports/2009/03/136_40682.html I'm surprised he will be making so little. He must also get a win bonus, but even still I have to hand it to the guy for willing to take a big pay cut in order to challenge himself in the UFC.
