I don't understand why they would do that though.........They allow other fighters to compete at ADCC and at BJJ competitions so why no Fedor and his sambo? I reckon theres more to this story than that. The truth lays somewhere inbetween Fedors side and the UFC's side. I'd like to really know what its all about but we may never know.
From what I heard, the UFC agreed to allow Fedor to compete in Sambo. Talks began breaking down when Fedor when not only did they offer him more money than they had ever offered any other fighter... but Fedor made the demands that... 1. Red Devil fighters from his camp also receive contracts, and get aired fights on the main cards of his shows. 2. Co-Promoted shows with Russia on multiple occasions. 3. Fedor's management being in control over who Fedor fights in the UFC. Joe Silva (the UFC matchmaker) said that Fedor's team expressed serious concern over Fedor being matched up against Tim Sylvia. C'mon guys... those are some pretty ****ed up terms from Fedor, especially when he was being given the biggest money ever.
We have many many months of legal wrangling for this fight to ever occur, even after Randy's contracts expire.
Can you find a single reliable and credible source for that claim? Why on earth would Fedor be scared of Sylvia?
That was from the mouth of Joe Silva, the UFC matchmaker. I could see them thinking that Tim's height, and reach, along with good takedown defense against the sort of takedowns that Fedor does, being a concern for them. I am 100% sure that Fedor isn't "scared" of fighting Tim. However, that doesn't mean that Fedor's management isn't concerned about that matchup.
I'd like to see a video of him saying that or a reliable source quoting him. And I actually think Sylvia has a bad takedown defense against the type of takedowns Fedor uses.
I read it, from an interview in which Joe Silva gave to several people at one of the UFC weigh ins. He talked about several fighters, and that is what he said about Fedor. That and the fact that he thinks Fedor is #1 in the world, but wonders how long that will last if he continues to not fight the best fighters. He also said that Dana thinks Fedor is great, but gets frustrated with people always boasting about him.
Thats actually interesting to me now that I think about it. This is wild speculation but perhaps after hearing that, Fedor specfically went in search of someone bigger than Sylvia to try and prove to everyone that he's not scared of size and went with the biggest guy he could find: Hong Man Choi.
