Banks criticized Akhmedov for lapsing into the same mistakes he made "against Peter". Must be a reference to something from sparring, because there's no Peter on Ali's record.

 

Dibombe able to catch and shoot, Akhmedov's jab hitting wrist before Dimbombe tosses his past it.

Interesting the contrast of advice being given, considering Akhmedov is the puncher in this match-up. He's being told not to stay in range, while Dibombe is being asked for more aggression, urgency and work rate.

Akhmedov needs to figure something different out in the second half.

 

Banks tells Akhmedov the contest is too close for comfort.

 

Akhmedov freezing up and overthinking like crazy in there. Not looking the same prospect I used to hype up years ago, pre-Gongora. Flattest performance I've seen from him.

It'd be one thing if that were fear of being stopped again, but Dibombe is a feather-fist.

 

"Your jab can win you this fight. Look at me, are you listening to me? The jab. The jab can win this fight, but you're not using it enough."

- Banks, sounding increasingly irritated.

It's true. Akhmedov is feinting the jab a lot, moving his left glove up & down the imaginary elevator, threatening both high & low but not pulling trigger. Consequently he isn't discouraging Dibombe or setting any of his own offense up.

 

68-65 Dibombe, just being an awkward pest, moving, blocking, counter-jabbing, and occasionally rolling in with overhands.

Akhmedov now needs at least a KD to do better than a draw on my card.

 

Banks swearing at Akhmedov, sounding absolutely fed up.

"You need every single remaining round, because you are losing the fight."

 

...oof, Jesus, how humiliating a cherry on top of a bad night at the office. Akhmedov walks into a charging jab from Dibombe and goes down!

 

10-8 Dibombe, 78-73 Dibombe

 

Banks shrugging at Akhmedov as he sits on the stool, with an "I told you so" expression, as he did warn Akhmedov multiple times earlier about putting his chin down, keeping his gloves up, and moving off the center line. He tells Akhmedov he's fighting like he's tired.

 

Finally a good combination from Akhmedov, early in round 9 - a 1-2-upperhook.

He needs a lot more of that if he wants to make a late miracle happen.

 

88-82 Dibombe

Utterly pathetic showing for Akhmedov.

 

Banks doesn't even sound confident that Akhmedov could get a kayo if he tried. He wants Akhmedov to quit "standing in front of Dibombe and giving him all he wants", and to do "what he can't stand" and get busy working off a jab showing angles. So far Akhmedov has failed on both counts, all day. To be honest, Akhmedov only won the first two rounds with his jab because Dibombe hadn't gotten warmed up yet and had barely any output.
