Why HBO makes choices like this, I don't understand. Merchant is fine in certain fights, but he's a horrible choice for a technical bout like this. You already know he'll spend 90% of the fight complaining that neither man will take risks, go for a knockout, etc. Love him or hate him, at least Max Kellerman respects technicians and would appreciate the legacy dimensions of this fight. Stupid, stupid HBO.
Ughhh is pretty much my reaction to Merchant calling any fight, but he'll definitely be pissing and moaning about this one after about the first minute. At least this means we don't have to hear him slobber all over Chavez Jr the next week.
Wasn't Merchant the one who criticized Martinez for not fighting like a prime Roy Jones ? that old fart is senile and should retire.
On his worst days i find Merchant entertaining. This is good news. Good or bad im looking forward to hearing his opinion on Ward.
I love Larry Merchant we need to have much much much more of him especially when Floyd fights, especially when Broner fights Merchant will call them on their **** and that is why he is so hated.
There's a big difference between calling guys on their **** and poisoning an entire broadcast with perpetual whining about fighters' styles. Merchant does the latter far more than the former.
It seems like he doesn't understand the sport at all some times. This is coming from someone who started following boxing 3 years ago.
I am sorry but if the fight is a boring fight he has a right to fans do not tune in to see a boring ass fight. Example Baldimor vs Floyd, Floyd dominating but content to just pot shot he didnt even dig down and try to get a stoppage in that fight.
Damn straight. He just moans these days and injects negativity into everything. (unless it's Pac Monster or JCC Jr fighting)
