that knowledge means **** when he pisses on fighters because of his lack of understanding or preference to watch guys beat the **** out of each other with little or no defense.
Sorry mate he knows more about it than you. I dont mind people saying hes getting old and finds it hard to string a sentence together so he shouldnt be on air but saying he doesn't know **** about boxing is ignorant. atsch
the Merchant who commentated fights in the 80s and 90s was very appreciative of technical fighters. after a round, he'd often add something like "this is a good fight between 2 good technical fighters" or some **** like that. Merchant isn't THAT bad, Lampley is the one without a clue.
u are giving merchant way more credit than he deserves. i don't tune in to see or hear any of the clowns behind the mic. there is nothing they can tell me that i cannot see for myself...or that i do not know. roy, george, lennox and ray on the other hand, can. i tune in to see and hear the fighters. i could give two shits who's asking the questions....and i definitely don't give a rats ass about any pencil necks opinion. bernstein is lightyears ahead of merchant and lampley in terms of knowledge and understanding. they could learn a lot from him.
You know he's going to be entertaining if this turns into a snoozer. Really him calling them out for being boring, and Emmanuel talking about Ward's "solid amateur background" will probably be highlights of the fight.
history, the participants...or back stories and politics...yes. i'm sure he knows more than i do. but actual boxing....what it takes to compete...the actual mechanics of boxing...learning, performing and teaching. absolutely NOT. he's sitting ringside and still doesn't understand half of what he's seeing. it's apparent in his commentary. it's why i usually turn the volume down when he's on air.
So he has a preference in what styles he likes whats the problem with that? people hate on him cus he doesnt suck the balls of the safety first fighter **** that we pay to see blood at the end of the day thats what we do tune in to see
This is exactly the truth, But lets face it Merchant doesnt suck the slick black ball sack and thats why these bitches here complain about him....
that's what u pay for... i pay to see great match ups. i pay to see the fights unfold. i don't pay for some old ass tired piece of shits opinion or complaints all night. if i wanted to hear/see grumpy old men...i would watch it on netflix.
u are too many funny. slick black ball sack? bitches? how about ppl who appreciate the finer points of boxing? u don't have to be black for merchant to **** on u either. he's **** on ivan calderon...joan guzman...casamayor. he doesn't understand boxing. that's all to it.
I pay to see fights, I do not pay to see high speed tag.... and Merchant when he sees high speed tag he calls them out on it, which is what we need more of these ****ers should not be making the kind of money they are making with out even fighting. **** that.... Merchant is added comedy for me.... sorry but HBO needs to keep Larry get rid of Lamps....
Have to agree with you. Kellerman would be much better in the booth calling this fight between two superbly talented, athletic boxers. Merchant doesn't respect actual boxing ability, just power punching goons.
high speed tag? is that what sergio martinez does? how about gamboa? broner? donaire? rigondeaux? mayweather? we'll agree to disagree on that one. not all fighters need to stand in the pocket trading punches to win. styles make fights. i'll agree with u on lamps.
Why do people think this is tactical? Ward/Hopkins would be more tactical. Dawson is half-**** in center ring and Ward is going to kick his ass, especially at 168. Any takers, lemme know. I gots paypal :deal
To be clear, I respect Merchant immensely and appreciate his contributions over the years to HBO. But anyone familiar with his commentary preferences knows off-hand that he's going to hate any fight that doesn't involve visible brutality. I know many casual fans who'd rather watch Gatti/Ward than Ward/Dawson, and that's fine. Boxing needs to create as big a tent as it can. But when you know going in that a bout is likely to test the patience of a casual fan, why choose an analyst you *know* will hate the fight. Kellerman said during Dawson/Hopkins I that the fight was "a stinker," but he also noted that the guys were competing at an extremely high level. Merchant won't give them even that much credit. :-(
