I believe the Era of having I believe it was at 1 point 13 world champions is over for a long time. The new generation of fighters coming in don’t seem as prepared as the last one. Think this/next generation doesn’t have many world championship prospects sadly
The 2016 Olympics output is a very poor one. Only Okolipus looks like he has what it takes to compete at world level, and given he is horrible to watch I dont see him becoming a big name. I think we are seeing a transition period as some of the older world champions lose and retire. With those coming up as prospects not matched properly and stepped up too soon or not good enough. All we have now at elite level at this moment is Josh Taylor, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Once you drop down from those three. You are really reaching as you having to talk about fighters like; Callum Smith, BJS, Chris Eubank Jr, John Ryder, Joe Joyce, Carl Frampton or Liam Smith. After the above there are prospects who are some way from challenging for a world title.
Okolie is ridiculously huge at cruiserweight and with it comes the power of his long arms. It'd get trashed by a good fighter whose around his size
I'm not really excited by the current crop... everyone just arrives with immediate fanfair and insane amounts of hype...and alot of them are quick to believe it. Can't remember the last fighter I got excited about where I thought they were special and capable of becoming a British legend. I do like Taylor and fury Give you an example....Dennis McCann ....I'd heard naz comparisons before I saw him........ya can **** off
Ebbs and flows. The tiny island of Great Britain with it's minuscule population dominates the sport's glamour division with an iron fist and we've invested all our attention into ensuring that our domination continues for decades to come. Don't get me wrong. We will still continue to punch way way way above our weight in the lower divisions too even though you could walk the length of our island and back 1000 times and never come across someone who has boxed or who has even spoken to someone who has boxed, but for now we're focusing all our time and energy into dominating the sport's glamour division for the foreseeable future.
The next Olympic cycle fighters look good I can't lie. I think 3 of them - Peter Mcormack, Whitakker and MCgrail are all gold medal prospects. I agree with your post, lots of these prospects are getting found out when they step up. Too many of them are too bothered with looking flashy. Most of them are feather-fisters tbh.
