Dennis Andries looks a bag of wank to me.

    What was so great?

I'm not criticizing, I'm just interested. A number of people are loving the ass off him so I must have gone wrong somewhere.

He was very crude, I've ranked him higher than 'better' fighters because of his achivements.

    What are his achievements?

He won the WBC title and lost it. Won it again, and lost it. Sounds like Clinton Woods to me. Only he lost to a slew of mediocres in the process.

3 time major belt holder, 4(?) sucessfull defences and a Non title win over Bobby Czyz. A good proportion of which was done 'on the road'

Good enough in this company for a decent ranking IMHO. Fitz and JC don't have enough fights at the weight, Mills has 1 win out of 3 fights against Lesnevich (quickly avenged) and I don't think Woods' career is as impressive either.

Yeah but Mills also beat 2 guys on the majority of these lists as well as Lesnevich. I thought he was 1-1 against Gus..but maybe not.

Yep, sorry Mills is 1-1(1) with Lesnevich (and didn't make a successful defence) but Mills beat both Harvey and McAvoy at the end of their careers. I didn't give him that much credit for beating either man TBH (certainly not Harvey).

Not enough to put him ahead of Andries in my book.

Personally I think that one win over a HOF'er beats that caveman looking dude because his defences were'nt that impressive IMO.

Especially since he got KO'd in the first fight and came back to win the rematch, that takes a lot of balls and character which impressed me.

Anyway, thanks for explaining your rationale :good

TBH whether or not certain fighters were in the HOF played absolutely no part in influencing my rankings (and never will).

Getting in the HOF in itself isn't a level playing field and beating a HOF'er near the end of his career (like Mills did) can be overated. I've tried to take the fights/ accomplishments on their own merits.

Mills beating Lesnivich was a good win over a very decent but aging champ, the HOF doesn't come into it.

He was only 33 years old and was in good form at the time. Tail end but hardly a corpse, he went 15 with Maxim a year later.

It's mainly nowadays the HOF has become a big joke. It was credible IMO.

I just don't think the wins Andries has stack up when you do take the fights on their own merits, title defences or not, Mills beat better fighters I reckon.

I definitely need to have another look at Andries though, it appears I'm doing a disservice to put him at #10 looking at other peoples rankings.

Lenivich was no corpse but he was past his best when he fought Mills, he never recorded another world class win and going the distance with Joey Maxim isn't as good as it initially sounds, Maxim wasn't much of a puncher.

Other than Lesnivich Mills' record is a bit thin esp. when you look at the stage in their careers that McAvoy and Harvey were at when Mills fought them. I think both men would have stood an excellent chance of beating him in their primes (esp. Harvey).

I don't think you'll be impressed with Andries, he won a lot of his fights by coming forward, taking shots and clubbing his opponens with crude, heavy hands. Of course Mills himself was no Willie Pep....;O)

I meant more in regards to looking over and researching his record and his opponents. I think I've definitely seen enough of the British Kaptn Huck on film to know he's not making my top 5. But maybe he should be higher than 10.
