The UK is the Attendence king when it comes to boxing right now no doubt! Watching a fight televised from the UK always gurantee's a live crowd and very loud very vocal & supportng fans cheering for their guy. (Passion!) I think Boxing has lost alot of luster here in the States based on most of it's fighters/Champions not being of the Pavlik "Complexion". I know that sucks to say!! but it holds alot of weight. IMO I think if we like it or not, the average common every day joe boxing fan tends to cheer for their own. as opposed to the true fight fan who want's to see the best vs. the best regardless. Oscar De La Hoya and the Latino fighters will always be the attendence holders in the U.S. because we bring in the most fans on the boxing corners which happen to be Cali/Vegas & New York. (AKA MSG & Any Vegas Venue) That is...Until the next Mike Tyson returns. Wack American Heavyweight Boxing = Low attendence
Well that's kind of true, the British support their fighters and appreciate quality boxing matches like no one else.
It pays to be good and white in England wonder if an English Bro would get that kind of insane support?
two words DAVID HAYE:-( americans are always bringing up the race card it just show how racist they really are.
if there were only 3 or 4 big fights in my area per year I would also attend every one. since I have my pick of 95% of big fights to choose from I have to be a little more selective.
my first post i meant american football... and ive been told the mecca for soccer is brazil... but im not to knowledgeable in that field ... aaran- the reason america/cans are given all the respect in the boxing world is because all the big fighters are from here and all the big fights happen here and its been like that for a while id like to assume... most of the time when all the big uk fighters come over to the states to fight whether they are fighting a person of american, african, latin descent they lose... thats why there is a big perception of uk fighters being over hyped... their records are filled with no name fighters and they come over here and lose claypole- no doubt you hit the nail on the head when you definition on the head for mecca.... but when you use the phrase in the connotation of sports it a little different... its where the best athletes of the sport your talking about come from... surely it isnt the uk... truthfully the reason hatton is capable is commanding so many fans is because he represents a country.... hatton and calzaghe are the two worth while representatives of the uk so obviously all of the uk will show to any event either of these two fighters have... its a bit different in the states... lets say a kelly pavlik .. for the sake of the argument.. wont get that much love because he is not even cared for in the united states because he represent 1 small town... as opposed to the united states
Hatton dosent represent acountry, hes English, he isnt an England team, you are makig some **** excuses considering you have a population of 320 million.
Wonder how many of those in attendance are Boxing fans and how many are moronic football fans jumping on the bandwagon
Nope. The Brazilian national team are always in the top 3 of the world, depending on form. But 'Mecca' means a place to go to do something. It's the same thing as 'spiritual home'. How many foreigners go to Brazil to watch a football match?
Aaran you are a turd but is hard to argue against what you said. That crowd was impressive last night. That said Madison Square Garden has done well lately with the Cotto Judah fight and Klit vs Iggy. That said there is no way anyone would sell 55,000 tickets here in the US, the sport just doesn't have the mainstream appeal it does over there. And don't tell me that all those people at that fight where die hard boxing fans, guys like Calzaghe and Hatton definately have crossover appeal over there.
