i enjoyed this show,i think it was in newcastle, some good fights on it, very entertaining, why has it not been continued,?:huh
Your talking about the Contender. It wasn't exactly his show. It was a good idea. But i think they lost ratings and ended up on NBC. and i think they did a cruiserweight one and do muay thai now...
Yep funnily enough i was thinking about it today myself. I was thinking about that and the GoldenBoy Shows they had Mexico vs Philippines. It be great to see a world cup mixed up with fighters who are up and comers or coming towards end of careers. Shows every few months over a year or so. No titles just guys trying to make names for themselves in competitive fights.
controversy killed...the....cat...? well anyways it was a mock game espn tried to make sure u.s. won so they added nelson and revelo to the contender team...even though never perticepated in a contender series. they changed the 10 rounders to 8 so they could get more adverts in. then after all the cufufle it was actually a draw This content is protected . so espn and itv therfore had to broadcast that u.s. won in a 4-2 majority. it was all a farce itv never talked a contract with espn again
politics to oneside, they were good matches , and some good fights, just puzzled why they didn't, consider it a sucessfull format
I always a thought a US-UK co-production show could do really well, imagine the quality of show that could be put on if say ShoBox and FFN were mixed into one the budget would be higher and the quality would be higher and you would get to see some decent American talent.
The problem was that there was no up and coming talent in the show. It was too much of a last chance saloon rather than a chance to showcase young fighters. It was, despite its focus on journeymen and small fights, a precursor to the Super Six. Also, the 24/7 format, despite Mayweather 'pioneering' it, came right from it - focusing on the lives and personalities of the fighters to sell the fight. Unfortunately, the show was the fight. And the fights generally sucked. Except for Bika and Codrington, which was incredible.
tried to get something like this off the ground a while back and were realy close to pulling it off only to fall at the last hurdle
i really thought it was matched well, they were all good fights, it diden't have to stick to usa, uk v france, or germany,etc, theres plenty of talent out there to make 7 or 8 good matches, it livens the scene upa bit, if it came about.
definatly,the rivalry is strong in that kind of competition,that one was good, minter had a tough oponent, and put up a real good fight, england v ireland could be a match not to dificult to make.:good
