Do you think these fighters have developed their own styles over the last decade or so? I don't remember that many Ukrainian fighters when I was a kid, but there were a lot of Russians. But they were notorious for being stiff, chin in the air, predictable and robotic... I don't really see them fighting like that as much today. They seem to have a more pressure style with improved counter skills like timing and accuracy. And as far as the Ukrainians, is it just Usyk and Loma with the highly technical, lots of foot movement type of style? Or is this just how those people train over there? I feel like both these nationalities are starting to develop their own unique styles. Will be interesting to see what they will be looking like ten or twenty years from now
Loma, Usyk, Dalakian and Chukhadzian all fight with a similar mindset. Ukraine definitely emphasizes footwork and defense more than other countries. Russia is more decentralized in style. Think about Bivol, Povetkin, Beterbiev and Kovalev.
Yeah I agree about Russian style being decentralized, but I still consider those guys all to be aggressive, pressure type fighters, some with better counter and defense than others, but all solid KO finishers, aside from bivol, and all completely different than the old school stereotype of Russian fighters
Outside of Cuba I don't see any country as having a specific style. Most countries a very diverse array of fighters.
Ukrainians and Russians certainly rejuvenated the Soviet school of boxing and added new layers to it. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan also have created their own unique styles.
