Wlad at his peak rates highest when it comes to greatness and legacy, but I do believe that both of the other men would have a good chance at beating him. Usyk, because I do think him to be the better man head to head, and Vitali because I feel that he'd be a bad stylistic matchup for his little brother- Not to even mention that potential ring dynamic. Older brothers beat younger brothers, regardless of skill. Michael Spinks has talked before about how any time he sparred Leon, he'd get the **** beaten out of him.
I like the brothers. Nobody believes me, but I do. They are class acts, really. I wish we had a million more like them, & a million fewer coming out of or going into prison. It’s just…can’t you be a doctor and learn how to punch properly?
From 2005 until his loss to Fury in 2015, his resume is loaded w/ unbeaten & once-beaten titleholders & contenders, many of whom would've likely been titleholders or at least threats to win titles in Usyk's era. As it is, Povetkin continued to hang around as a top contender & make an impact on the recent era nearly a decade after he was beaten decisively by a visibly faded Wlad. I'd say Usyk's era has a lot more to answer for than Wlad's. The Klitschkos toyed w/ blown up CWs that tried to take their titles, & it would've been unthinkable for a complete novice like Ngannou to nearly win a title in their era. Wlad is 1 of the most talented big men in history though - isn't it a positive reflection on him that a fighter needs to be both massively big & massively talented in order to threaten him?
Wlad should have been disqualified vs Povetkin for his blatant cheating and clinching. Not exactly much of an achievement when you refuse to even fight the other guy and use biased referring to your advantage. Usyk's two wins over Joshua are better than any of Wlad's wins. However, Wlad does have a broader range of fighters beaten - Byrd, Chagaev, Brewster etc. Wlad is ahead in terms of "greatness" at heavyweight but if Usyk can win 2-3 more big fights, then i think Usyk will take it.
And Calvin Brock wasn't "super talented". He was super hyped by ESPN who wanted a top American heavyweight. The truth is Brock was decent at everything. Decent power but nothing special, decent speed but not especially quick, decent defense but not elite, decent footwork but not great. There is nothing he did that was ever special.
Again, unbeaten titleholders and contenders who were diminutive compared to Wlad, or, in the case of guys like Pianeta and Brock, completely unheralded. I do not think there is any case to be made that it is a better era than this.
Wlad was the 1 doing almost all the effective fighting & dropped Povetkin to the canvas multiple times. Povetkin was no less guilty of using that every time he dove in & clutched Wlad around his waist to avoid further punishment. So just like Joseph Parker then? No 1 in the top 3-4 of Wlad's era got away w/ being as absurdly wild & sloppy as Wilder has been for years, no blown-up CW was able to clean out the top of Wlad's era, & no fighter making his pro debut was able to drop & fight on even terms any1 in the top 2-3. Honestly, this recent HW era has some of the most embarrassing marks against it of any HW era ever.
Its an excuse that Wlad fans make that Povetkin was diving in. This is not true. Povetkin was trying to get close to the taller man which is a perfectly legit way to fight a taller man. Wlad refused to fight. Everytime Povetkin tried to get close, Wlad would grab and push. There were over 150 clinches in this fight, mostly initiated by Wlad. It was a cowardly performance and any decent ref should have DQ'd him. Joseph Parker is miles ahead of Calvin Brock. Parker has a win over arguably the hardest hitting southpaw ever in Zhang. Plus he has decent wins over Wilder, Ruiz and Takam. Brock was all hype and didn't have a resume of a Parker. It isn't even close Usyk isn't a blown up CW. He is a generational fighter. Like i said, his wins over Joshua are more impressive than any of clinchy Wlad's wins.
Wlad is the greatest Ukrainian heavyweight of all time, but Usyk is the greatest Ukrainian fighter of all time.
That night, Charley Pride's rendition of Kaw-Liga, led to my daddy becoming a lifelong cuckold. Edit: Wrong thread.
This is a bad argument on many levels. For one, the Wilder reign started in the Wlad era. For another thing, Wilder got by NOT ENGAGING the quality fighters of the era...not even on the Derrick Chisora level. He wan't really part of either era, but in his own pocket universe. Now that he is engaging, he is losing.
On what planet does Wlad lose points for being so big and Usyk gain points for being so small when the thread has designated "hw" (this means heavyweight lol) It's an open division and the poll isn't a P4P poll. If it was Usyk would win but it isn't. Wlad is the runaway winner and Usyk's wins over Fury and Joshua alone easily eclipse Vitali's lack of quality wins. So Usyk is sandwiched between the two bro's.
