Well, you're merely a half, don't be sad if you couldn't understand those full blooded ones! :hi: Joking aside, Waipahu I think is a Filipino community so I suppose most residents there can speak Pilipino or the language/dialect of their origin.

The Filipino support didn't help Gorres against Montiel though most fight fans and experts saw him winning the fight.:huh Hometown decision has never been the rule in the Philippines.

It was Andy Ganigan. He's a huge puncher and was rated highly then. Ben Villaflor came ahead of Ganigan. From what I read many years ago, he became world champ at 130 at 19 yrs old. He had a very short reign and he retired at a very young age of 22 or 23.

is it the wbc president who pays the paycheck of the judges or it is the promoter?

i had gorres winning over montiel by 7-5 but he was unjustly deducted 2 points for fouls.
but gorres was lucky to get a draw against darchinyan

ah kalunya, can we be civil?
really though, you are right about one thing, waipahu is like philipines jr. we got cats and dogs and chickens wandering around in the streets, sometimes even goats. manungs(sp?) squating in the street, smoking cigars. **** fights everywhere, 25 people living in one house and they have one old mercedes in the driveway. its pretty nuts.
my great grandfather came over at the turn of th 20th century from cebu and settled in waipahu. but the funny thing is, my father and even my grandparents dont speak a word of tagalog or ilocano and know surprisingly little about the culture. most flips in my town are just like us.
i just watched an interview with donaire and brian and he just sat there awkwardly for the most part, answering the hosts questions in english. nonito and the host went on and on in tagalog and brian just sat there, looking like he wanted to disappear.
the kid is an american, and it just surprises me a bit that he came to such prominance so quickly by holding up a pi flag and proclaiming to be a genuine pinoy. dont get me wrong, im a fan of his and pull for him everytime out, but doesnt that seem strange to you at all?
up until that point, his fanbase was specifically from hawaii. now he is an international star, and in a way riding on the coat-tails of pac.
so i guess i support the guy, because he is a lot like me and we share a similar upbringing, but feel slighted because his true fans have been there since day one. and they're from hawaii, like me.

    Solis in a dominating fashion.

Viloria will once more showcase his usual lacklustre, half-hearted, very weak "counterpunching" skills on a way to another expected UD loss and on his way to eventual early retirement.

Watching him is like boring yourself to death. The guy has no ****in' interest in boxing, why he is allowed to still participate in there is a mystery.

the kid used to be a vicious attacker earlier in his career but lost his ferocity after almost killing contreras. he looked good in his fight with ortiz, knocking out in the first but hasnt done so well thereafter. i also think ortiz crumbled in that fight and hes looked even worse since. anyway, his older fans are still holding on to see if the kid will get his fire back. i believe the old brian would stomp a mudhole in solis, and quick.

For now that's a wishful thinking, him beating Solis.

His last few fights would suggest otherwise. He would never regained that old fire with that stupid counterpucnhing MO he has been showing to us.

not too many people here like viloria. First of all, he can't speak tagalog unlike donaire who also grew up in the US. Second, he sucks and he is boring.

...well, despite that fact, his 'filipino' roots makes me wanna root for him
