If Jimmy Bivins retired in 1946 after losing to Walcott, he would have gone down as one of the greatest fighters of all time with Dominating wins over Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles, and Charley Burley. Jersey Joe Walcott too would have looked even greater having had a clear win over Bivins to end his unbelievable winning streak.

Langford is right up there ...

    Jack Blackburn
    Joe Gans
    Joe Walcott
    Stanley Ketchel
    Joe Jeannette
    Sam McVey
    Jack Johnson
    Kid Norfalk
    Harry Wills
    Tiger Flowers
    George Godfrey
    Phili Jack O'Brien

Imagine if most white fighters would have fought him ? Could have easily added Burns, Dempsey, Willard, Papke, Chip, McCoy, Dillon, Levinski , Carpentier as well .... none of them wanted any part of Sam.

Yeah i remember Suzie pointing out ages ago that Marshall has maybe the best wins resume ever, i think he said at middle, not sure. His resume in the context of this thread is even more prolific.

Including losses significantly devalues the worth of the names.
    For example.
    Dixie Kid
    Dave Holly x5?
    Peter Maher
    Joe Gans x2
    Hugo Kelly
    Joe Walcott
    Jack O Brien
    Kid Williams
    Battling Levinsky
    Luther McCarty
    Sam McVey
    Johnny KIlbane
    Al; Kaufman
    Sailor Burke x4
    Bob Fitzsimmons
    Jack Johnson
    JIm Barry
    Jack Blackburn x3

    ????????????????

Yes Lloyd Marshall beat Ezzard Charles, Jake Lamotta, Charley Burley, Holman Williams. These 4 wins ALONE for a middleweight is almost unspeakable. All of those men he beat are all top 10 middleweights of all time. Thats FOUR victories over top 10 middles of all time, all of them at/near there primes. WoW

Another vote for Greb. That said, Angott is a solid choice that I wouldn't have thought of right off.

I find it funny that someone on here says Greb cant compare with Angott's series against Robinson when Angott didnt even win a single fight against Robinson...

Yes Archie Moore fought longer than Greb but in Greb's 13 years he had more fights (80) against more top flight fighters and managed to win more and lose less of them... So, in short Archie Moore fought more than twice as many years as Greb and still couldnt accomplish what Greb did... You do the math.

    I beg to Differ.

We are not argueing wins and losses. we are argueing resume. Greb did not fight more top flight fighters than moore.

And on a personel note, trust me Archie has recorded alot of quality wins from middle-heavyweight and defeated big ranked heavyweight "PUNCHERS" unlike Greb who only fought heavyweight "Boxer" types that didnt threaten his chin.

Marshalls is amazing didnt realise how many great guys he fought and beat!

Angott is amazing too the legenbds but then the depth of his resume in Ring ranked contenders i've underestimated Angott as being the guy who beat Willie Pep at Lightweight and in a close competitive fight.

Are you thick or something? We've already said that it's not about who won the fights, it's just 'fighters who faced the highest level of opposition.' Regardless of outcome.
