I've said from the very beginning this fight would be more like the Nishioka fight. Donaire does fight down to the level of his opponent to put on a show. In the end Donaire's size and pro experience prevail in this one though. The amateur level teaches you to score points, not hurt people.

The only fight Rigo has fought in a boring way just scoring points was the cordoba fight.Rigo had hurt every single boxer he has faced, including cordoba.

Mathebula is a 6 footer with a long reach and has one of the best jabs in the business. Rigondeaux is 3 inches shorter than Donaire and wont be able to jab him like Mathebula. Rigondeaux will have to get close to Nonito because of his short arms and Donaire will catch him with his left hook. Cubans are known for short arms, that is why Gamboa has to come close to tag his opponent and also why Farenas dropped him. Donaire KO's Rigo in the first half of the fight.

Rigo has blah defense! Rigo's only "defense" is the fact that he is a one trick pony and has found sub par or dazzled competition. He doesn't throw a jab. He cocks and loads up his left before throwing it. The only thing worse than Rigo's defense is his chin. The man has been wobbled by jabs.

Rigo for the first time is going to get into the ring with a guy that has bad intentions. Rigo is going to be shut down pretty quickly. He either gets sparked or just survives. Rigo has spent far too long as an amateur.

Rigo isn't garbage; he has some skills. But I can not see him winning this fight. I'll be shocked if he even lasts the full 12. The Flash would have to have a really bad night.

The most important intangibles are working too much in Donaire's favor imo. This matchup is in no way similar to the Mathebula fight. Plus, the African was TALL and had much longer reach than Rigo. Rigo is going to have to take too many risks to get any work done. Donaire is either going to have Rigo fighting his fight, or it's going to be a safety first borefest with the more recognizable fighter (which is Nonito right now) getting the decision.

...Rigo has a bad defense? Do you not realize how hard it is to hit Rigo??

Well for a fighter with only 11 fights, Rigo's opposition has been solid but fact of the matter is that if one doesn't look at it in context, his opposition still isn't good so his defense on the top level is still untested.

Of course it's tested at the top level, he was a world class amateur star. People don't realize Rigo was fighting TOP NOTCH guys, some of which are stars in pro boxing today.

Why do you Cubans have such a refusal to acknowledge how different things are between the amateur's and pro game?

He doesn't swing unless you swing at him! Wait, wait, paw, wait, wait, paw, paw, ****-back-throw! Rigo telegraphs his shots, is wide open when he throws punches, and doesn't punch with guys. His head and chin are sitting right up to be cracked when he punches as well.

Rigo has blah defense. I will go a step further and say at the elite level (where guys are not in awe of him) he is going to get sparked. Especially if he ever moves up in weight.

He didn't. That is exactly why he will lose. Rigo does not have the killer instinct when under the pressures of a fight. Rigo reverts to form, which is a Sport Boxer.

Look at when he was dropped in that one fight. He immediately realized he was up on the cards and shuffled away for the rest of the fight. That works against lower level competition, but I doubt it works against Donaire.

Nonito's defence leaves him open to a lot of headshots I will agree, his chin can handle that. His balance on the bike or on the retreat is excellent and I don't think Rigo will land the body shots he needs to break him down consistently.
Either guy could land one KO punch and this fight takes on heavy weight proportions because of this. Good analysis
