^Jake Lamotta certainly was not a welterweight. Mike McCallum was undefeated at his best weight, 154 pounds.
Willie Pep at 126 pounds. If there has ever been an unbeaten fighter at his wight ,it was Willie Pep. Pep won his first 70 or so bouts until he lost a split decision to the tough LIGHTWEIGHT Sammy Angott and won his next 100 or so bouts until slowed down by a near fatal plane accident. Pep lost to Sandy Saddler in his 195th bout... Just think about this... Pep lost ONE close decision bout in almost 200 fights to a very strong Sammy Angott...I'm so darn lucky to have watched the prime Ray Robinson and Willie Pep ringside...Two best fighters I ever saw...
:deal But I would say Benny Leonard was even more unbeaten in his prime than the amazing and ATG Guglielmo Papaleo.....and Leonard was facing better opposition in my opinion....
