I'm similar to you, in I wish they'd both stop monopolizing the entire sport and the match is incredibly hard to call, I lean Pacquiao, granted I'm biased I'm a bigger fan of his, but I think the awkwardness and speed will be too much for Money to overcome.

It's a shame that, aside from all of the variables the boxers bring to the fight we have to worry about x-factors like refs and judges.

The Ref shouldn't be a factor. Neither fighter will be trying to mug the other one so it should be a relatively easy fight to referee. These knuckleheads on here bit ch about the ref when he doesn't allow one fighter to flat out mug another.

Agree here. Ring size won't make much of a difference. I think Floyd will have an advantage in the center of the ring, but Manny is way more vulnerable against the ropes than Floyd. Gloves are in the contract so they aren't an issue.

On the referee. Pac doesn't really clinch, which is scary for him if Floyd is able to force an inside fight. Floyd won't clinch on the inside, because it destroys his advantage. You may have incidental clinches here or there, but I would think Pac would want a faster break on the clinch than Floyd. Especially since Floyd will look to clinch if he gets hurt.

Manny doesn't foul much but Floyd has no qualms about cheap shots on the inside. I don't see Floyd using his elbow to the throat tactic because most of the fight is likely to take place in the medium to outside range. Bayless may be the best referee for Pac cause he won't let Floyd foul Manny and wouldn't allow as much inside fighting as someone like Weeks would. Pac doesn't want Weeks.

    Agreed.

Also, floyd likes to sit on the outside and pot shot and his much longer reach (i believe its 6in. over pac) is a big advantage.

Floyd tends to hold a bit much or my liking (especially during the maidana fight). I just wish refs would penalize more for holding in general.

Yeah. Agreed with all. I forgot about the fighters we're talking about. Neither of them are into the clinch game. Mayweather only does it when he has some guy like Maidana trying to run him over. Pac doesn't do that so, you're right, the ref should have an easy night.

Good post. I see at as 50/50, but I'm leaning more towards Mayweather. Also, to the question of the advantages. I have the answers for all except the ref.

    1) ring size- it's 20x20. Turns out the ring size is nonnegotiable. They had to use Nevada Athletic Commission's standard size.
    2) gloves- Mayweather will wear 8 oz grants (probably wit ortho-padding like the past) and Pacquiao will wear his usual 8 oz Cleto-Reyes.
    3) Ref- I'm not sure. I've heard rumors that Cortez was reached out to as a ref, but I wouldn't believe it because I haven't heard it come from any credible source.

I'd raise hell if I was Pac and they got Cortez to ref. He's on record saying Floyd will win the fight.

Agreed. Pacquiao's camp has openly insulted Cortez too (calling him a bad ref, making fun of him), so that probably isn't good either. Haha. But once again, rumor!

I think that it will be interesting for about 3 rounds with Floyd working his jab and figuring out Manny from the outside. But once Floyd starts timing Manny and starts landing clean shots --- dont be surprised if Floyd walks Manny down and eventually knocks him out.

That would be the ideal situation for Floyd but i'm sure Roach knows that too. If Manny is gonna win this fight, a big part of it will have to be on the back of a well devised plan from Freddy.

good news is that both fighters get there choice of gloves as per contract, manny will most likely use reyes as he loves them and floyd will go with his grants

the ring size issue i kind of disagree with in a sense because i dont feel pac can cut off the ring that well and floyd lowers all his opponents outputs (as most counter punchers will)

the ref is going to be a big deal in this fight no doubt. would love to see smoger or weeks aswell, but mainly because i dont want to hear **** from diehard pac fans blaming a possible loss on bayless (who up until maidana 2 was hailed as the best ref in the game).

from memory you usually find out who is refing the fight a week or 2 before the fight ?

i sure hope manny and roach are training for floyds shoulder roll and instead opting to train for a more aggressive come forward mayweather with a high guard (though manny seems to have amazing ability at getting around the high guard)
