Undefeated 25 year old Frenkel scores frightening KO over Enzo Mac; then retires. Why?

    I've been curious about this one. Enzo suffered one of the more vicious knockouts I've ever seen- nobody would've blamed him if he'd retired afterward- yet it was Frenkel, on the precipice of entering his prime and landing world level fights, who never laced them up again.

    Anyone got the story here?

    Makes sense that that would've been the final straw, then. That was the kind of knockout people get severe permanent damage from. Enzo had no business being allowed to continue after the first knockdown, which was vicious enough in its own right.

    There was a German poster on here years ago who hung around the Sauerland gym and knew some of the fighters personally, acquaintances. Frenkel was a Jew from Ukraine and IIRC his Wife was or became very religious, i was going to say born again Christian or something akin to that but it doesn't sound right since he was Jewish. Anyways he didn't have the stomach or mentality for it anymore and just lost the fire from what i remember religion may have played a part of it.

    Frenkel was on the Euro fans radar for a long time before the Macca fight and was infamous because of the stories that him and Huck hated each other and people from the Sauerland gym said Frenkel knocked Marco Huck out cold in sparring, twice, and that Ulli Wegner forbid him from sparring Marco after that. Imagine the slugfest Lebedev vs Frankel would have been circa 2010-2011.

    Search for it in the Euro fourm and you can still probably find the threads.

    EDIT - Here's a thread from 3 years ago discussing his disappearance. His rivalry with Huck was pretty well known and may have been why he fell out of favor with Sauerland.
