I guess this puts to rest the Adamek rumors. They will fight in December if BJ earns the mandatory spot.
So rumor for Adamek-Flores in march says that Adamek wants to fight voluntarily his next mandatory again?
Flores strikes me as someone who is talented, but doesn't necessarily need boxing so he can afford to be picky in his fights. He helps himself by carefully planning each match. That he's calling out Cunningham makes me think BJ's seen something he thinks he'll be able to exploit.
I don't think Adamek ducks anyone. Steve and BJ will be #1 and #2 in the IBF ranks next month, with the next mandatory due December 2009.
He has plenty of other options, which are just as good. If he sits out 2009 without taking any of them, maybe then you can say that. Judging by his past, Adamek ducks no one.
He'll fight Cunningham again, probably just not right away. Flores can call out Cunningham all he wants to, but with Don King as his promoter and only one big money fight available, he'll probably just hold Cunningham out of action until he gets that rematch. Adamek has gone out of his way to make tough fights and has made rematches of close fights before. I see no reason why he wouldn't do the same again.
Wlodarczyk Wants Rematch Against Cunningham Former world cruiserweight champion Krzysztof ‘Diablo’ Wlodarczyk is a warrior, and as such, accepting losses doesn’t come easy to him. The last man to beat him, current IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham, is the same way, and after Wlodarczyk gave the American a chance to redeem himself in May, he hopes Cunningham will do the same by agreeing to a rubber match to truly determine who the superior fighter is. “I think a third match is the only true way to prove who is better,” said Wlodarczyk, who lost a razor-thin majority decision to Cunningham in May after beating him by split decision last November to win the vacant IBF title. “I won the first fight, he won the second, they were both very close, and the fans enjoyed both fights. I know that if we fight again, we will not only settle our score once and for all, but we will give the fans a memorable and meaningful fight.” Seminole Warriors Boxing and Hammer Knockout Promotions have made Don King, Cunningham’s promoter, a substantial offer to bring this tie-breaker to fruition. The pride of Warsaw , Poland , who now makes his home in Piaseczno, Wlodarczyk (37-2, 27 KOs ) is a skilled veteran of close to 40 fights despite being only 25 years old. Before the loss to Cunningham, ‘Diablo’ had won 17 fights in a row, 11 by knockout, and he only has redemption on his mind. “100 title shots against other fighters would mean nothing to me,” said Wlodarczyk. “I only want to fight Cunningham to redeem myself, and I hope that as a true sportsman he will decide to face me in his first optional title defense to settle the score once and for all.”
Enough political talk, who does everyone see winning between Flores and Cunningham? These are arguably the best two technicians at 200 lbs. :good
I dont know why there wasnt a rematch as i dont really keep up with Wlodarczyk but i will tell you one thing...when you hear of those horror stories about fighters going into Germany to face a German based fighter this is one of em. I downloaded and watched that fight and it was a complete sham.Never have i seen a corner and fighter TELL the ref that his cut came from a headbutt(when there never was one)and the ref accepted it in beteween rounds.Melkomian had some success early but was getting tagged and looked like he was ready to go as the fight went on.
