    **** yeah its overated.

Look at the men to be underfeated.

    Sven Ottke
    Rocky Marciano
    Joe Calzaghe
    Floyd Mayweather

Now some are good and great fighters but they are also all of them the most managed careers we have ever seen.

Apparently not on ESB where there is an abundance of clown fans (non-athletic chumps) rating merely good fighters as great/exceptional/extraordinary entirely based upon beating a collection of domestic or regional "talent", bums, fat guys, and old fighters.

Defend a bogus belt, always on favorable terms (predisposed judges, handpicked back pocket refs, etc.) and only face opponents after someone else has already taken the risk to show the way forward, never rematch the questionable (crap) performances or the ones where your predisposed ref got overly intrusive and rushed to insure a win at the slightest opening or opportunity, and then retire to escape with your "0". That **** is embarrassing, a joke, and let's hope it stops. Let the last two relative shim sham men that got away with their bogus records intact be the last two forever.:deal

    ----

As for Mayweather - he will finally face Mosley (albeit a past prime version) and then Pac. Plus, he was a smaller guy moving up multiple divisions which is a comparatively more credible explanation for not having completely cleaned house - a little more slack to guys who move up early and often than for those that sit on punk belts fighting in their backyard. Dawson has faced a prime Adamek and has time left to face the younger opposition (and the risk that can present). If he fought BHOP and then RJJ and immediately retired that would be a joke - and it won't happen.

RJJ was a smallish framed SMW that could have remained there for a career but recognized that it was a historically bogus division full of mediocrity and went to LHW where his opponents would at least have a little more size to try and offset his far superior talent. When you are that much better than your opposition you don't keep playing hard against scrubs. You move up to find competition - just like young talented kids will look for games with older players and/or larger players. And, Jones still made the trip all the way to HW for one fight - that is exceptional.

It ALL boils down to the money. For the most part, in modern boxing an undefeated guy is more marketable than a guy with a few L's on his ledger. It's a shame, but you look at an up and coming fighter and what do you look for? The "0" and the KO's. That makes him more marketable as the next big thing, the next great one.

Most veteran fighters with an "0" get accused of ducking and cherry picking, or at the very least selective matchmaking, and for the most part, it is true. Why take on a fight you stand a greater chance of losing, therefore risking future earnings, when you can fight another guy, build hype and legacy all while getting to keep the big paydays coming? When the potential to make 7 figures plus looms, you're less likely to put major obstacles in between you and it.

It's a shame, but it is just another big marketing tool foisted on us by the promoters and the networks. And it gets in the way of some of the best, most competitive fights being made.

I don't know about undefeated records even being that overrated in large part. Mayweather yaps on and on about being undefeated, and Calzaghe also talks about it, but Pacquiao was named Fighter of the Decade despite losing a fight in 2005. Pacquiao will usually win the polls over Floyd when they're being rated historically, as of today, despite having 3 defeats.

Calzaghe is undefeated. How often is he rated historically over guys like Lennox Lewis, Roy Jones, Marco Antonio Barrera, Evander Holyfield, Oscar De La Hoya?? He usually isn't.
