This fight was close to getting made at one point. Hatton would have given the blueprint for Margarito. (Not a building/cement related pun) Sheer pressure beats Cotto, but it takes one helluva guy to do it. Cotto vs Hatton... I got Hatton

Even at 140 I'd take Cotto. Hatton was never a sheer pressure fighter like Margarito, nor did he have Margarito's size and DAMN SURE not his chin.

It'd be a tough fight for awhile, but over the course of the fight Cotto's clean combos and rather WIDE edge in pure skill and ability would take its toll.

    Cotto TKO 10.

Cotto just has better technique. Hatton's only hope is pressure and volume.

Cotto. Though Hatton might overwhelm him but I think Cotto is way more technically sound.

To me the fight hinges on just how good Hatton's chin was in it's prime. Cotto can punch but then again so could Tszyu... or was that version of Tszyu not punching as hard due to accumulated injuries? Cotto will probably land the better punches but Hatton had the stamina to outwork him.
If Hatton can't take Cotto's punches then he has to take his power away either by tiring him in clinches, hurting him early and scaring him or by just pressuring\mauling him and not giving him room to punch.
It really did have the potential to be a great fight and def could have ended in a stoppage for either guy.
Why couldn't Hatton get this or the Gatti fight made?

Both fighters have their moments but Cotto grinds this out later in the fight and gets the stoppage

Cotto wouldn't have the heart, willpower or durability to keep Hatton off.

At 140, Hatton is an ATG. No question. Miguel was very ropey at 140.

Hatton would do to him what he did to Kosta: Make him quit.

Hatton, well the Hatton who beat Tszyu, but no result would surprise me here. Cotto however can at least fight a bit going backwards, Hatton never had a plan B.
I do think however his ferocity and fitness beats Cotto

Back then at that time I always favoured Hatton. Cotto never looked as good at 140lbs and Hatton never looked as good above that weight. Of course Cotto is the greater fighter and has had the greater career but I think Hatton would have won at 140lbs both in their peak.

I'm not writing Cotto off for the record but I think Hatton was fitter and tougher than Cotto at this weight. Gets destroyed at 147lbs though.

Cotto wins this and easily. Hatton's entire career holds onto a single win vs a shot old Kosta who was not only fighting Hatton but also vs the ref.

Hatton's chin is Glass, he got brutally KO'd by featherfisted Mayweather and gets rocked and put on ***** street almost every single fight.

Cotto can outbox him for a decision, KO him to the body or by stoppage.
