I'm a big Marciano fan, but I'll admit Rocky did not beat the prime Ezzard Charles. Charles was faster, younger, better mobility in the late 1940s. I do think Rocky beat a GREAT version of Charles in june of 1954, Charles really came to fight that night. But Rocky Marciano vs a 1948 Ezzard Charles is a tough matchup for the Rock and Charles could easily take 1 in a series of 3. If I had to pick a winner in 1 fight....Charles was younger, fresher, faster and could win more rounds, but at the same time, can the 1948 Charles bring that heroic courage he brought to the table in june 1954? Doubt it

Marciano by late knockout, charles ahead on points at the time

It would have been real interesting to see both fight eachother back in 1951..both were young and in there primes still. Marciano more of a slugger at the time..I say he either knocks out Charles or gets outpointed

I dunno. But I'll be the 6th idiot.

I reckon a prime Charles would win a close decision. :good

Maybe..but he certainly would not win the rematch with the Rock...I'd bet my house on that. Rocky wins 2 out of 3 in a trilogy.

No doubt Charles of 1948 has the speed, mobility, skills and STYLE to beat Marciano. I just don't know if he has the durability and toughness to survive. That june 6th 1954 showing was not your typical Charles. That was the gladiator Charles we had never seen before, a charles filled with confidence and determination.

The prime Charles was also in the 170-175 range. That would hurt him almost as much as having sharper skills would help him. I still take Marciano over 15 with a disheartened Charles at the end. That said, it's definitely a closer match.

Charles was still in prime, if marciano beat the 1948 charles you would say charles did not have enough weight yet, or experience.

All things being the same stylistically, Marciano.
