Terrell makes it ugly but Tunney outpoints him with speed. A lot of clinching with Tunney landing the cleaner blows while most of Terrell's work would be with his jab and in the clinches.
Ernie Terrell was an awkward, underrated performer..awkwardly dull but effective, but there is no doubting Gene tunney. He was the superior fighter of the two and despitr a severe height and reach deficit, he would have solved those problems and would have won a solid decision over Ernie. Hard, unremitting right hands over Terrell's famous left would have been the key to victory. A lot of holding by Terrell, but Tunney would have done the cleaner and more frequent scoring...Tunney W!5 over Terrell.
Stylistically interesting. It may be a chess affair, or just a very negative affair. I think Terrel's length and speed could have him finding a narrow decision. This will be one where I'll actually go with the upset.
I think Tunney's just too smart, too complete an athlete to be put off only by a much bigger spoiler type. Tunney by decision in one you want to fast-forward through (but don't, because we're all secretly too hardcore to skip available footage).
Tunney by decision, he attacks Terrell's midsection and slows him to a walk but Ernie has his moments scoring often with his jab.
