Jack takes a decision but has several rocky moments along the way.

Louis aggressive and busy enough to take a 15 Rd. UD.

Louis was quick enough to get inside Johnson's jab, smart enough not to be outworked, and hit hard enough to knock johnson out late. Johnson would probably let his man off the hook several times enroute however

Johnson counters Louis with the right hand time and again the way Schmelling and Walcott did while making him miss. On the inside he smashes him with the uppercut

    Johnson UD

Louis can fire off from mid-range and in close, has the far more dynamic offence, throws more, and will get more done to take a comfortable decision or blast Johnson out of there.

i'll rephase. A full HW version of Langford beats Johnson. Langford was practically a light middle when they fought.

I have Louis's pin-point accurate punches and combinations breaking through Johnson's defenses. Johnson could last the distance if he is reduced to spoiling but he won't win the decision that way.

He will land some sharp right hands and uppercuts occasionally but Louis's punches will effect him more.

Good post, it was Johnson afterall who taught Schmeling how to beat Louis with the righthand. :good

Jack Johnson weighed in at 185 lbs for the fight

Sam Langford weighed in at just 156 lbs.

Both according to boxrec. Today, it'll be like Paul Williams fighting Cunningham.

While Johnson balloned in weight later on, for me, his prime weight was around 205-210. Langford, against Battling Jim, Jeanette and Willis scaled in at just under the 200 lb mark, a fully developed HW

Langford was 5'6", he was described as fat at 199lbs.Langfords prime weight was about 175-180lbs as late as 1921 he scaled 187 when he fought Young Peter Jackson he was 34 years old , a year later,at 35 he came in at 185 for a fight with Bearcat Wright.

I stand by my assertion that he ,and Johnson were both 20lbs below their optimum weights and that Langford was the more experienced fighter , with over 50 fights under his belt.

Yeah, i take your point, both were probably 20 lbs below their prime weight. But it doesnt change the fact that for the bout, Langford weighed in a little over a LMW limit of today. Had Johnson fought it when sam was 20 lbs heavier, I fully believe he would spark Johnson. But we'll never know as Johnson refused the fight (he also refused Langford's offer to go down to a club cellar and settle the matter once and for all)
