Yes, that was a tragedy... I remember seeing that fight too... Quiroga was landing at will...

Jacobs/Pirog is the most perfect example I can think of. I always said, even prior to the fight (check my post history), that I felt like Jacobs had great boxing skill but there was a certain toughness lacking in him. Especially in his fight against Ishe. Though he outboxed Ishe, Ishe was muscling him and man-handling him when ever they got in close. So I feel like Jacobs is a perfect example of a boy going into a man's game.

This fight shocked a lot of people. Nunn had no power really, and Kalambay was the ultimate boxer. Watch this shot: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhcwSsDxYIg[/ame]

Kalambay had beaten McCallum who was coming from jmw, and his chin was considered on of the best until Nunn ko'd him!

When i think of the statement, seperating boys from men, i think of fights more along the lines of say, Barrios vs Anchando...... or Margarito vs Cintron 1, or even Maidana vs Ortiz. Where one fighter has some hype, steps up to a rugged, proven fighter and has the fight beaten out of him physically, mentally, and spiritually.

I dont think Tito vs Vargas qualifies, there were no boys in that fight.... just one great fighter fighting a really good one. Vargas could never have the fight beat out of him, and was holding his own in many parts of the fight.

    IMO.

but i realise thats just my interpretation of the statement, and me being a vargas fan :D

    Good thread :good

Peep these rounds, and find out why I loved Sanchez as a fighter. Find out what Gomez's record and ko ratio was at sb:

  8. They both were. Even the last round was give and take. What still gets me about that fight is that there is nothing obviously wrong with Kid Akeem through the last round and even after the fight all the way up until he collapses.

This is the reason why Sanchez took no mercy on Gomez. Peep Zarate's ko record: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQRlmMPBVSc&feature=related[/ame]

To me he was being hit to clean. Quiroga bled, but Kid Akeem took far too many clean punches... Quiroga was never the same fighter after this fight...

Nunn always possessed a little bit of pop, but it was thought that a knockout would be the least likely outcome given Nunn's choice to usually box from a distance, and with Kalambay sporting a world class defense and having never been dropped in his professional career. It was a shocking turn of events, but people should have known Michael could punch after seeing what he did to Roldan and Tate. He stopped his previous four opponents going into this fight.

Damn....Nallege is showing epic knowledge on this thread. He needs to do it more often instead of Pac-baiting.

Aaron Davis vs. Mark Breland is a very underrated fight. Arguably the best WW fight of the 90s (along with Simon Brown-Maurice Blocker).

Simon Brown vs. Tyrone Trice 1 is another WW classic that isn't talked about enough. When people talk about classic 80s WW fights, Leonard-Duran 1 and Leonard-Hearns 1 come up. Well in terms of sustained action, Brown-Trice 1 take a royal dump all over Leonard-Hearns 1.
