Feel really sorry for the people on the card. The fact is, Matchroom and Wasserman had done the right thing when the test came back dirty, tomorrow night there could have been a show on regular DAZN, at the indigo or York Hall. Yes Matchroom would have lost money, but absolutely no where near as much money as they have with what's happened this week. The guys and girls who really need the paydays could have earned something.
Not just the money the high profile fight would have given some of them levels of exposure they have never had to this point and potentially gained new fans. I think it would have been very classy if Hearn set up an Indigo or York Hall show for them but I believe many are with Wasserman so maybe there is a conflict with Channel 5 or for some reason Wasserman weren't able to set it up?
I always feel sorry for the undercard when this happens. Especially as they're out of pocket from paying for the camp. Will they still have to pay trainer etc? I don't know if it works via contractual liability or it's more informal. Does anyone on here have knowledge of how it works?
The Wasserman fighters should have the option of fighting on Channel 5 on their next card in Newcastle- not ideal but better exposure.
They are on Youtube through Boxing Social but the amount of views aren't as high as the televised contests get on Channel 5 which I believe is over 1 million?
In a perfect world, yes it would've been great if one or two decent cards came out of this in small venues, free of charge to those ticketholders who could prove travel and hotel expenses. All those who had forked out for a months subscription would have something to show for it, the undercard fighters could do their thing and at least some good would come out of a bad week for boxiing. I suspect the level of complexity in practice however makes it next to impossible, as Sapiens has just said, broadcast deals would come into it very quickly. It's likely not just a call to York Hall asking if it's free tomorrow night, think of the planning that any event requires before it can be put on? Nice thought though.
Maybe so. Although one of the most unsavoury aspects of this affair, for me at least, is that it looks like they were well on the way to getting this event on without anyone being the wiser until the Mail broke the story of the failed test. As I understand it the BBBoC only discovered their cojones after the news broke and would otherwise have kept quiet and let the fight take place? You don't do any planning for replacement shows when your event is still on course to go ahead?
No this is the worst thing, we ended up at the right decsion but basically got everything wrong at every venture to get here
It's a real shame but it's just one of those things. There should be a contingency plan in place though for when this sort of thing happens to help compensate the boxers who miss out. It happens too often.
