Ricky Burns defends his WBO belt next saturday vs Joseph Layrea. Is there official undercard?

I think Burns v Layrea is very poor fight. I hope undercard save the night.

Granted its definitely not the best fight out there but to be fair Layera fought Appleby in an eliminator. Everyone fully expected Appleby to win and then we would get an all Scottish world title fight and not many would have complained with Appleby Burns. Appleby however got showed up by Laryea, he was well beaten so the guy deserves his shot. If he is not good enough to fight for a world title he should have never been given the chance to fight in an eliminator in the first place! He was given a chance and he beat what was in front of him thats all you can ask

    Was it an eliminator?

I was under the impression it was a tune-up for Appleby as much as anything.... granted Burns isn't a murderous puncher so we aren't going to see a repeat of Vargas vs Howard Clarke, but still, it's poor.

Appleby will have his hands full with al-Hamidi if he's anything less than on top form.

Im not sure if it was officially an eliminator but i certainly remember the comentators saying if Appleby wins this he sets up a clash with Burns. It was supposed to be an easy night for him but he was showed up to be a domestic level fighter. I dont like knocking fighter but the crap he came out with after about him deserving the win as he was "in front of his home fans" was a joke. Being infront of your own fans doesnt give you the devine right to get a decision after getiin beat up all night

I agree with you that Al-Hamidi will give him a tough night, he is nobodys mug

Bollocks. It wasn't an eliminator and Burns v Appleby would have been just as much of a joke as the fight against Laryea. The only reason some people would have liked it is because it would have been an all Scottish World Title Fight. Laryea certainly doesn't deserve this shot.

it was for the WBO international something so the winner got a top 15 ranking.

Warrens plan was to make the all scottish fight. Burns mando doesn't appear to be due yet.

I'm hoping that the WBO insist on Martinez as his mandatory.

Even though he was overrated and sloppy as hell he'd be a test for Burns to see how much he's improved.

It's not as if there is an abundance of options there for him.
