most people prefer counter-punchers. in a close round, people would give it to the defensive fighters and boxers. but official judges tends to rewards agressors and those who risk more in close rounds.

Usually I would say that work rate in itself is useless as it's not even a basis for the judging criterea. However, many judges are better at telling who threw a punch rather than who landed one. So if you're able to get off a lot of punches, even if they don't land or barely land, you can still convince a judge that you're doing something in there.

Unless you are in the vicinity (up for debate) of the guy throwing more/landing more, cleaner punches are only good if your plan is to KO the guy.

    No?

I don't think so. I believe there are a lot of posters one ESB with some limited boxing training. They tend to drive this site in that direction. People like to believe if they train hard enough, study hard enough, work hard enough that they can achieve anything. It's a nice dream and it keeps us all going, but it simply isn't true. These guys drive the 'sweet science' aspect over all other aspects of the contest even though there is plenty of evidence that some judges don't. Pure counter punchers don't do their fair share to make the fight happen. Period. They don't try and create openings, they just wait. This isn't fair to the other combatant and judges are seen to 'rob' the counter puncher by the 'sweet science crowd' while the 'fight crowd' sees things differently.
