99% of fighters get paid squat compared to what they put themselves through.

 

I don't see a problem. If a misfit like Kevin McBride fights the most famous boxer in the world, of course he's gonna get way less money.
They're getting a chance at an upset and big fights in the future, over fighting other journeymen for peanuts.

 

Sammy Fuentes got like $25k or something for getting brutalized by J.C. Chavez. Merchant said it on the show, I can't remember the exact figure.

 

One of the things that made Duran furious and served as a great motivator for his first fight with Leonard in Montreal was that he felt shortchanged on the money.

I don't know what the split was, but Duran sure resented the arrangement.

The intriguing matchup between the stylistic boxing virtuoso and a man widely regarded as a barely-domesticated animal was scheduled for the night of June 20. Leonard was 24 years old, Duran 29, and their combined records 98-1.

 

Duran did end up getting $8 mil for the rematch and Leonard got $6 mil.

The government in Panama took 2 of the 8 mil.

 

This could be a long long list.

Primo Carnera has a good case. His handlers owned 110% of him and he was the one fighting ranked contenders.
