Underrated competitive heavyweight fights

Clifford Eitenne vs Lawrence Clay-Bey

Eitenne won most of the rounds with sheer workrate but Clay-Bey would have some dazzling moments with some rapid fire combinations.

Jay Nady the referee at the end of the fight called it the "FOTY".

 

That was a great fight and one that honestly, shocked the hell out of me at the time. Lawrence Clay-Bey was a guy that I expected a lot of at the time. He was a really good Amateur fighter that I had seen fight live in a couple of tournaments and I really thought he was going to school the Bkack Rhino who I didn't think much of at the time. This fight was on the undercard of Lewis vs Tua and I literally got every fight wrong on the card.

I thought Tua was going to stop Lewis.
I thought Tackie was going to overwhelm Molinia and I thought one of my personal favorites (Ivan Robinson) was going to beat Jessie James Lejia. That was back when promoters put on good pay per views that weren't showcases. Prospects were pushed and undercards outshine main events more times than not. Clay-Bey was never the same after that fight and the Black Rhino would get some good payday before throwing his life away.

 

I'll add Jirov vs Mesi and Jirov vs Moorer. Jirov didn't have a ton of success at heavyweight but he was fun too watch. Both of these fights were very physical with Mesi ending up with a brain bleed after barely hanging on against a surging Jirov. Moorer was losing and struggling to keep pace with Jirov until he finally caught him high on the head. Had Jirov not jumped up right away and taken the eight count on his knee, he might have gotten through the round and finished the fight ahead on the cards.

 

Liakhovich vs Brewster was good

 

Frazier-Bugner,definitely. Bugner pushed Frazier all the way and as much as some say that it was that close because Frazier was "over the hill" they need to remember that although "Smokin' Joe" may have been past his VERY best,he was coming off that devastating first career loss to George Foreman so he had a point to prove.

Both were very competitive fights, Izon was knocked down and badly hurt in both but came back strong to score the KO few rounds later
