Later in his career Ray Mercer developed a very, very nasty jab. Tore Wladimir's face apart even though Mercer was well past 40 at the time and was dominated in said fight.
Yes, Mercer was able to land the jab frequently on Wlad, I remember Mercer trying to bait him in, and throwing the most significant jab of the ropes that night, too bad he barely landed a right hand that night. I think Rahmans jab is very underrated, it's very under used by him, in replace of it, he sometimes falls in love with that overhand right, which at times leaves him wide open for a good counter punch.
Nino Valdez, on film he had a powerful telephone pole jab that he used frequently. He used his long Jab to control ezzard charles in the fight. Charles remarked after he was very suprised by valdez jab. Jersey Joe Walcott, he tripled the jab.....mixed it up throwing to the head/body/head....watch his first fight with louis, louis didnt know how to deal with it. I never seen anyone make a jab so tricky. He would switch with the shuffle and jab with his right hand then switch back! Zora Folley- IN HIS PRIME One of the best jabs of that era in any weight class, back in the late 1950s he won fights alone on his jab. It was fast, crisp, elegant, and thrown with authority. Ernie Terrell- Watch some of his fights other than Ali, He had quite the impressive Jab. He was 6'6 84" reach and used this to his advantage, beating the top smaller fighters on the outside by outjabbing them. His jab was long, very fast and fluid, and very accurate. Bob Foster- Outside of Harold Johnson, he may have had the greatest jab in lightheavyweight history. He was the first to cut Ali, totally outjabbed Ali. Archie Moore- had 78" reach, really long for his height. He outjabbed many great fighters, and used that long reach of his very intelligently. His Jab was one of the most accurate I have seen, very precise, very smooth. Tony Tucker- At 6'6 220lb heavyweight contender, you would expect a man his size to have a jab, but he had a very good one. Tyrell Biggs- His jab was his good weapon. Pinklon Thomas- Outside of holmes, the best jab of any heavyweight of that era. Holmes wanted no part of it Carl truth Williams- He outjabbed Larry the entire fight Buster Douglas- maybe the best ever jab of a superheavyweight?
suzie took most the wind out of my sails, great list... but remember Andrew Golota against Bowe. He was beating him jab for jab, very impressive. Also, I liked the way Chavez used his jab to set up his other punches. And where would Monzon have been without his jab? other than that, g.g. allin is my all-time favorite jabber.
Foster actually was one of if not the only person ever to cut up Ali's face, which I find incredible. That jab of his was ****ing lethal.
Tyson, Frazier (short-armed pressure fighters get little credit for their jabs, but these two threw some crushing jabs). Dempsey (althought he prefered to call it a "jolt" because it was a power punch designed to seriously wound or finish a man)
michael spinks and marco antonio barrera, they outjabbed larry holmes and naseem hammed in jabbing contests! was barrera outjabbing southpaws!? (kelly, hammed, ayala)
..............Dwight Qawi, while built like something I deposit in the toilet bowl every Sunday morning while reading the sports page, had a superb jab.
