Agree just rewatched his two fights with Eubank which actually warmed me to Eubank after being a fan of Watson and Benn both men showed a lot of courage. enjoyed him battering Haye as well. He did get shafted in the Nelson fight though. Shame he didn't get more fame as he was a nice bloke as well.

Medel has an incredible resume. I’ve said before, put extra weight classes and belts in his era, and he’d probably be a 2-3 weight multiple time world champion in today’s game with the guys he beat and a lock for HOF. He was Mexican bantamweight champ for eight years which is better than being, say WBC champ for 8 years today.

I’ve spoken to Jofre and Harada about him. They are very full of praise for him and I’ve asked Mexican greats about him and the same. In fact, when I asked Zárate to list his top 5 Mexicans ever, Medel was one of the names, but then he stopped and said it’s too hard to narrow it down and he hates leaving friends out. Medel is an idol in Japanese boxing. He loved it there and the people and even named a daughter Yuriko.

Try watch rummy's corner video about the greatest bantamweight by decade and you'll notice that in the 1950's he is ranked second below Jofre and above Harada! This shows that Medel is a solid contender throughout his era. Dude's SOOOOO underrated, is sad to see he is totally forgotten these days.

There's even an interview on Jesus Pimental where the interviewer asked him if Ruben Olivares is the hardest puncher he faced. And he said "No never. The only man who ever hurt me is another mexican, and his name is Jose Medel."

I always try my best to spread his name and make him more known for boxing fans. Heck! I even made a highlight reel of him. He and Bennie Briscoe are one of the greatest non champions of all time. PERIOD!

Fireman Jim Flynn. He has wins over Dempsey, Langford (for whatever that’s worth), Tiger Flowers and Billy Papke, Jack Sullivan, George Gardener, Al Kaufman, Carl Morris.

A real who’s who of quality fighters from the early 1900s and that’s without even mentioning some of the fighters he also lost too

Thanks for the recommendation I’ll get on that right now. I’m friends with one of Medels sons so have been able to find out a lot on him. Definitely a great fighter and person.
