Underrated slugfests?

I'll avoid the temptation to reach back in time a long way.


The twenty-first century has thrown up a lot of British domestic fights (albeit contested for EBU or Commonwealth titles in some cases) that were exciting to watch. Some are evoked quite frequently — [url]Alex Arthur vs. Michael Gomez[/url], [url]Jamie Moore vs. Matthew Macklin[/url], [url]Carl[/url] [url]Johanneson vs. Kevin[/url] [url]Mitchell[/url], [url]Jamie Moore vs. Ryan Rhodes[/url] — but others seem to just excite in the moment before falling through the cracks and evading mention thereafter, even in Anglocentric haunts like this forum's British section. Of those, a few that immediately occurred to me; [url]Carl[/url] [url]Johanneson vs. Michael[/url] [url]Gomez[/url], [url]Kevin Mitchell vs. John Murray[/url], [url]Anthony Crolla vs. John Murray[/url], Sam Eggington vs. Frankie Gavin. There'll be a whole bunch of others I'd kick myself for not remembering.


Outside of the Brits' domestic squabbles, there are tons of candidates, but, off the top of my head, [url]Vicente Mosquera vs. Edwin Valero[/url] and [url]Miguel Acosta vs. Brandon Ríos[/url] are a couple examples of firecracker world title fights (at 130 and 135 respectively) that took place in the twenty-first century but are seldom evoked. Some other barnstormers that happened within the last five or six years, like [url]Nonito Donaire vs. César Juárez[/url] and [url]Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Julio Ceja[/url], are already slipping into the realms of the forgotten.

Great short one, I'm shocked Calzaghe fought back like that in the same round, when he got rocked and dropped, he looked so drunk.

 

You came to the right place for the best in boxing knowledge my man. Everywhere else is jam packed with fairweather fans, this one is jam packed with the real hardcores.

 

That fight was nuts, insane pace between the two of them.

 

I really wonder how either man could take such punishment from each other. They were hardly only throwing arm punches in there and so many body shots landed flush in particular.
