I like Joyce but really? You can come up with lame excuses for any fighter’s weaknesses. Paulie Malignaggi wasn’t actually feather fisted, he just carried his opponents so the crowd can get their money’s worth and to get fights easier. Joyce just doesn’t have the reflexes or upper body movement to dodge punches. It isn’t the end of the world though, he still has a lot going for him at his age
The theories have to be plausible. If Malignaggi had been playing possum in his lower level fights but secretly carried big power he would have unleashed it when he needed to in close/losing fights but obviously he never did because it wasn't there. Fans also would have preferred to see Pauli KO more of his opponents rather than go the distance almost every single time. It's clearly true that Joyce is not the most evasive heavyweight but we've seen him be a lot more evasive against better quality opposition than Hammer. If Joyce wanted to move around behind a jab and stink the joint out a bit he wouldn't have got hit clean nearly as much as he was and especially not early. Fans aren't looking for Joyce to finesse a journeyman; they're paying their money to see him juggernaut them. Joyce's rivals would also take Joyce more seriously and be even more likely to duck him if he got hit less, so it serves that purpose too. I assume that Joyce doesn't go into fights wanting to take flush punches on the chin but he knows his strengths and weaknesses and accepts that it's inevitable if he's aggressive. He knows that he can weaponise his chin to cover up his deficiencies and break his opponents down.
I've seen people compare him to Big George Foreman claiming Joyce to be better, claim he's top 5, even 3rd best heavyweight based on nothing but hype. He's insanely overrated on a win over a shot Hammer, an ancient Takam and for beating a fellow prospect in Dubois. People criticize AJ for being a big stiff idiot, but use mental gymnastics to try and paint Joyce as some sort of "slow fast" unstoppable heavyweight with the masterful art of taking numerous punches to the face in lieu of any actually defense. The guy is 37 and hasn't even fought a contender yet, let alone an actual champ.
Point is, he's not that hyped at all here. Unless you think 2-3 posters speak for everyone. But feel free to be a hater of his if you need to be.
I like Joyce but you have to wonder if a Hrgovic or Mak caught him clean with the same shots Hammer landed early on whether he'd take them. He really needs to tighten up his defence whoever he faces next. He is especially vulnerable to overhand rights, seen it in other fights also.
You asked what hype, I gave you examples. Now you're shifting the goal posts. It's more than 2-3 posters, which is evident if you read the numerous threads out there.
That's not shifting ****. That's giving you a little perspective. You're acting like everyone is on JJ's jock now. No..it's just a few. Are you just upset he's getting more props then Parker or something???
The average speed of a boxer's punch is 25mph, while the punch speed of the average person is significantly slower at about 15-mph. But when you're blessed with slow-fast-twitch muscle fibres as Joe is your punch will appear much slower than it actually is to the naked eye See the punch coming Take evasive action But the punch still lands Slow-fast speed
The fast-slow thing makes no sense whatsoever.... It's like saying something is so cold that is actually hot... What is being described is timing and accuracy.
But frostbite is like a burn doe. It's even treated by burn units! Seriously though, Joe needs to tighten up that defence. I've heard of fighters falling in love with their power, but falling in love with their chin? Say it ain't so Joe! Getting caught with the same punch over and over again is never good. Why not slip that punch and make an easy nights work even easier?
What did I shift?? There's a goal post, or whatever the **** you think is going on. You think EVERYONE is hyping JJ, so you take umbrage. Fact of the matter is, JJ isn't very hyped her at all. get over it....and I like parker more if that makes you feel better.
