has anyone used this for handspeed and power?
what results did you get compared to other methods?
personally i found it extremely effective, the resistance is perfect, a lot of volume can be accomplished, very little risk of injury, and the movements(apart from the legs) are very specific
i find dumbells far less effective because the resistance is more downwards towards the gound rather than against the direction of the punch and causes too much tension in the shoulders (how can you be loose and relaxed while holding dumbells?)
also i find it uses up very little energy

It is a great method for increasing hand speed, doing it in a cold water makes it even harder as blood leaves you arms and hands, I would suggest that you put your head under the water for 15 to 20 so you have less oxygen, it sounds backwards I know but it really helps you recover faster in a sparring season.

By staying underwater I didn't mean head and all.

Tried it a few times and deemed it 100% worthless.

Aqua Aerobic exercise is quite effective and is a good workout, I'm not sure you will get a lot from just punching under water but each to their own for preference. Moving round shadowboxing underwater would be quite good exercise. One of the best workouts I ever had was to swim half a mile with a cotton T-Shirt on and then half a mile without it.

It's good for training explosiveness as the resistance increases the harder you push against it. Much like using elastic bands.

But it needs to be done in conjunction with strength training or the gains will be minimal.

Strength training is open to interpretation, could you be more specific?

As for keeping your head underwater it is easy, your mouth and nose will submerge in water if you squat in the shallow end of a pool or pond, you will sink in hot water and float in cold water, the different in density compared to the human body.

If you take a large gulpd of air and fill your lungs it keeps you afloat, but some boxers I know blow out as they punch some guys hold their breath, I prefer to blow out, it helps flush the lungs of oxygen poor air.

I have had dreams of being in a fight but moving like I was under water trying to run as if I was on the bottom of a swimming pool, horrible feeling.

That's your typical teenage dream of running but going nowhere while someone's catching up to you... Then you wake up.

I think iIt means responsibility is overwhelming you or something like that. :tired

In a standard periodization cycle, it would be a sports specific excercise during the power cycle.

You can add resistance to it by attaching anything bulky to your forearms that might increase resistance against the water.

I was a teenager in those days but I was also the captain of the schools swim team.

If you ever get to fast for the water then have a clay bath, you will be shocked at how hard it is to move, this can be 300 times thicker than water, you will be goosed in a few minutes.
