So Zsolt Edrei is the undisputed LHW champion? Michael Spinks was the undistputed HW champion in the 80's and Briggs was the undisputed HW champ in the 90's without even having a belt?
Everything is personal opinion; one man's Undisupted Champion is the next man's alphabet crap holder. Everybody needs to create their own standards as to who they want to be World Champion and apply them... There is no magic formula to create World Champions; there are no universal champions; there are no right or wrong answers; just personal opinions.
I don't think anyone could dispute that B-Hop was the MW champ when he held all four major alphabet titles, the ring title, and linear title all at the same time.
I hate all the different sanctioning bodies however they do have their good moments..They do order legitimate mandatories..Casa should be rightfully stripped if he does not fight Santa Cruz..The WBC has ordered it..The IBF ordered PBF-Judah2 after their first fight and it shouldve happened..So they sometimes do **** to keep some credibility...However they need to be more selective with their choice for judges...If I'm correct doesnt each judge represent a sactioning body as well as the state athletic comm.??
I could: Ray Leonard beat Hagler; retired, but no World Champion was created before Leonard came back, thus he retains the championship using a previous precedent (Ali). Leonard's next defeat at a weight where the Middleweight Championship was available was against Norris; Norris won and loss the title to Brown and Santana, finally losing to Mullings, who loses to Castillejo; who loses to de la Hoya; who loses to Mosley; who lost to Wright... Thus Hopkins was not Undisupted, also in his time other alphabet organizations has Middleweight title holders, further proving there is no such thing as an Undisupted Champion. I considered Hopkins World Champion at Middleweight from when he beat Trinidad; I suspect I was not alone, but still it was merely a personal opinion and could not be a matter of fact.
That's compeletely ridiculous. Leonard's fight with Norris was at 154, which ends that discussion right there. No reasonable person would use this argument to dispute Nard's claim as the MW champion.
So he would be the undisputed champion despite the the fact that there was another titel holder in the division who had been a champion longer, and was ranked ahead of him?
There can be only be by definition one Undisupted World Championship, there cannot be three. There can be three pieces of alphabet crap, but there can also be and indeed are tens of peices of alphabet crap over the years... You will never get an Undisupted Champion; what you can get is a Champion you believe should be Undisupted. But it will only be a personal opinion.
Yes. If Kessler had won the IBF title instead of fighting Calzaghe he'd be ranked above him. The reason Calzaghe is rated so highly is that he beat Kessler.
Calzaghe was top ten p4p fighter, and the number 1 SMW before he fought Kessler. I doubt Kessler would jump ahead of him by winning a title that Calzaghe recently vacated.
But for something to be undisupted it needs to have unreasonable people believe it as well... A Precedent was set by Ali, when he retired and came back in 70 and 80, so why cannot Leonard use the same arguement? As for 154lbs thing, again, there are plenty of precedents of matches being fought for a higher weight title at a lower weight (Leonard/Lalonde springs to mind). The Middleweight weight LIMIT is 160lbs, the only rule is you must weigh 160lbs or less, thus Leonard/Norris qualifies...
That was a bogus match that wasn't even legal. TheY completely ignored the rules for Leonard. Sorry, Leonard lost his claim to the MW title when he started fighting at 154. What happens when a fighter retires? If a fighter can still be a champ when he permanently leaves the division, what happens when he permantly leaves the sport?
Even if you say Calzaghe would be rated higher it wouldn't make him the champ. You must understand that the champion isn't always regarded as the best in the division?
I am not disagreeing with you, but it is just your personal opinion, as it is mine, but it is not Undisupted, thus you will probably never have an Undisputed Champion. And as I said many still considred Ali Champ when he came back in 1970 and 1980... As for the legality of Lalonde/Leonard, well the WBC made the rules up as they went along ask Honeyghan and Rocchigiani if you do not believe me.
