As much as I like Fury, there’s a difference between becoming a champion, and living as a champion. What you say would hold weight if he had the responsibilities of holding all those belts for over 2 years, fighting mandatories etc.
Historically, heavyweight champeens taking 2-3 years between defenses of their status is nothing so unusual. Johnson, Willard, Dempsey, Braddock, all did it. Fury’s proclivity for visiting the back yards of long-reigning champions/titleholders and emerging victorious rather trumps his lack of mandatory defenses. The man is the man. The return of Tyson Fury (which, despite his straits, was always generally anticipated) voided the claims of Wilder and Joshua, sanctioning body maneuvering and publicity campaigns aside. Anthony Joshua is not the man, but he will have an opportunity to seize that distinction.
Man I think you nailed it spot on. Winner is the undisputed. Should vacate all belts... then fight whoever emerges and becomes champion down the line. I like that.
What's the longest anyone has held four belts? You would essentially be continually fighting mandatories, how long has anyone ever sustained that?
Assuming that AJ and Fury win their respective fights, then all I can see is Fury dismantling AJ in a one sided, comedic contest. I like AJ but skillset wise Fury's on another planet compared to him and has the ring smarts to adapt if needed. After that, can't see much else left for Fury to do in the ring, he should go and enjoy the fruits of his labour resplendent in the knowledge that 'He told us so' when no-one else believed him.
Man, I wish they would set boxing politics aside for this one fight, finally gonna have one guy holding ALL the belts. No confusion with the alphabets for once.
Hear ye! While Joshua was busy banning his doubter from 'his' ring, Fury was doing business. Didn't just call Wilder out at his own show like someone who actually wanted to fight, he comprehensively defeated him in a historic two-fight (soon to be three-fight) series; This content is protected This content is protected Fury has shown Joshua what it's all about. He literally lifted the mounting pressure to box Wilder off of Joshua's shoulders, as foretold here; All that remains to be said after Fury-Wilder III; "Joshua, where are ya?! WHERE AT YA, AJ?! AYJAYYY!!!" This content is protected This content is protected
Fury went to Germany and beat longtime champ Wladimir Klitschko. He went to the US to fight WBC champ Wilder twice and stopped him. He is unbeaten officially and has held every major HW world title belt at one time or another. Tyson Fury gets motivated for the big fights. He doesn't have to do too much more, imo. If he beats Wilder again in their fight no. 3, beats Joshua and maybe has one more bout to end unbeaten, that's enough. Beating Wilder again and AJ is probably enough. For Fury, he might think there's too much politics outside the ring involved in keeping all the belts together. Wladimir was a consistent champ who deserves a lot of credit for keeping the belts together as long as he did and he didn't even have the WBC.
Eddie will not agree to this without a rematch clause. So would be a fury retirement or fury/aj2. fury beats aj twice then retires, aj wins the belts back fury’s ATG status sky rockets. aj beats fury, I’m unsure if fury will want the rematch. Depends how the fight Goes. Aj could beat whyte again Usyk and retire as an ATG
Holding four belts hasn't really been done much. I believe Hopkins held 4 MW belts for a sec? The WBO has only been given some sort of 'validity' within the last 10-15 years, in comparison to the former 'Big three' titles (Along w/ ring belts I suppose).
