A guy who went by the name of Soldier Bartfield gave Greb fits. I read on teh Greb webpage that Greb said "He fought like a bum against everyone, but me!" Addendum: Also it looked like Licata hung around for 9 rounds too long with Monzon.
Pat Cowdell took Salvador Sanchez to a Split decision - Later Azumah Nelson dealt with Pat in the 1st Round !
The same bum, trained Randy Turpin, and devised the strategy that he used to beat Sugar Ray Robinson. Bartfield had Robinsons number just as Eddie Futch had Muhamad Ali's number.
Its news to me that Bartfield had any input into Turpins preparation for Robinson.Turpins corner consisted of Bill Hyam ,main trainer,Mick Gavin,Frank Algar, andArthur Batty.Batty was a muscle control expert and advocated weight training which Turpin did.Turpin did 2o rds sparring a day for Robinson with 5 different partners.Mick Gavin was assistant trainer,Turpins brother Dick who had trained him for some contests was demoted, and Hyam took over as chief trainer.Hyam had sparred with the likes of Driscoll in his youth. The sparring partners for Randy against Robinson were,Mel Brown from the States,Johnny Williams a heavyweig,Ted Morgan andEddie Phillips ,both stable mates ,Randys brother Jackie a featherweight was used for speed.I can find no reference to Soldier Bartfield regarding Turpin, and one of his sparring partners had a pub in my town years ago ,he never mentioned Bartfield to me,he did say Turpins problem ,his Achilles heel was women.
Montell Griffin gave Jones a load of bother in thier first fight and he beat James Toney. Also mavrovic(sorry about the spelling)was a pain for Lennox Lewis
I actually think Augustus is a very good fighter. Roger was making Floyd be uncharacterstically aggressive (even for his SFW days) and that allowed Floyd to take some shots he needn't have taken. But it was a fairly easy win for Floyd in the end.
