No he doesn't. He is outright mandatory, therefore he can fight who he wants until Jan 17 when the mandatory time is up after Martins win over Glaskov.
At 24 years old, having just beaten a very formidable top 10 HW, having to dig deep, you gotta think this experience will greatly improve his ability to grow into a more complete fighter. I mean, prior to this fight today, his toughest fight was with 4-4 Brice Ritani Coe. Not exactly a strong opponent, even for the learning curve. He's fought MUCH better names than Coe in Williams, Minto, Botha, Nasciemento, Costa Jr, Pettaway, Saglam, Tupou, Meehan, Martz, and Bergman, but ALL of those "NAME" journeymen, gatekeepers, prospects, and former top name HWs offered much in the way of resistance and essentially layed down, not forcing Parker to change to plan B, dig deep, or work out a plan B on the fly. The Takam fight will help him tons in terms of working thru plans in the gym, and not getting dragged into situation that he might not overcome.
I thought he did well and showed good heart and boxing ability. He's fast too. Don't think at this point he could hang with top 5. But once he's bit more experienced he could crack top 5 Ortiz, Aj and fury can't see him beating any of them. He'd struggle with Haye too.
Ortiz and AJ have VERY questionable whiskers. Wilder's are proven to be brittle. Wlad is old with questionable punch resistance, and Fury can sometimes be lured into exposing his own chin. I wouldnt write Parker off vs ANY of the top 10 HWs in the world. Though, Haye, rated 50 by boxrec would cause him troubles off the back foot.:think
Pluses for Parker today: chin was solid. Calm under pressure. Beautiful work at times, especially off the ropes and often under pressure. Big fan base. Gained experience. Beat a credible opponent. Minuses today: His power gets downgraded. His size/strength confirmed as not being top-draw (weedy looking arms). Wide open for counters. Took a lot of punches, and showed signs that this will continue as he steps up. Stamina issues after 5 rounds. Joshua will sleep soundly and with a smile on his face.
I thought he looked strong. He pushed takham over like a child at one point. Main thing is he can dig deep to win. Think is power is over rated though
That was probably the only time he didn't have his back against the ropes unable to take the centre of the ring against a small journeyman heavyweight.
Pulev can actualy be a MUCH easier fight than Takam. Pulev regressed and he isn't as adaptable as Takam. If Parker can get around his jab, he can smoke him in 3 rounds top, no joke
Just watched on you tube. Can't fault Parker too much, came though some sticky moments and a deserved decision vs a dude way better than any Joshua opponent.
