Everyone knows about the three well-known defensive styles (conventional, cross-armed, philly shell), but are there any unique styles that are very rare, and there's no official name or anything for them? Just curious, since there has to be more than 3 styles.

    Useful thread.

I prefer to fight using the Boston Long Wank style.

Kind of a hybrid, dare I say.

Is that a real style? You're most likely trolling and talking about masturbating, but you never know...

I use the: let the punches hit my face defence. It works out very well and its easy to do.

Essentially all defense is based on either blocking or avoiding. In terms of blocking you caneither use gloves, forearms or shoulders (or arguably your face). Avoiding is much more diverse. You can use slips, bobbing/weaving, control of range, and the subtlest (which I actually think is Mayweather's best attribute) is closing angles. If you think of good offense as creating angles, then a good defensive fighter can also close those angles.

To put a generic name on a style takes away the subtleties of it. By conventional I presume you mean a high guard, but look at 10 different fighters who use that style and you will see 10 different ways of using it.

  15. The smartest defensive style, the one that separates the winners and losers is good footwork. if you dont have the advantage then avoid getting hit altogether move and reset. that's what the a team tells me anyway...
