Hello Everyone, I have been training this summer as an amatuer boxer at Petronelli's gym in Brockton, but recent news as come that I thought I would share with you all. In case anyone is interested I am currently training to become Navy Swcc. Since many of you probably have questions I thought I should tell you about what happened. I have been thinking about entering the Navy for the past 3 years, so its not an out of the woods decision, but it was finally the right time for me to make the correct maturedecision. At sixteen-hundred on june 19th, I was sworn in and elisted as a Navy Reserve Sailor. I am scheduled to leave for Bootcamp october 29th in the Great Lakes. It was certainly not a tea party signing up, I had to go through many tests/inspections/long waiting/hotel visits overnight/early morning wake-ups before I was eligible to be sworn in as United States Navy Reserve. It did not end from there. Because I scored highly on my Asvab test(a computerized test to test your mathametics, english, electrical, auto, critical thinking, vocabulary skills) in which I got top 30 percentile, and because i have 20/10 vision I was able to get into the United States Navy Masters at Arms Program, which is the criminal Justice program of the Navy, which I was very pleased about. Because of my physical qualifications I was elibible to pursue the career of a Navy Swcc. It interested me tremendously for this line of duty I feel would best suit me. I have been training now for my first PST test for the previous weeks, and Its coming along great. I take my first PST test two mondays from now which I should pass and if that is the case I will get my first Navy Swcc 45,000 contract to enter the training program. I am exicted about that. So here is the situation as I have two obtions laying ahead of me that I have a couple months to think over 1. I can decline to enter the Swcc Program and remain a Navy Reserve Sailor in which I will enter bootcamp in the Great Lakes oct 29th for 9 weeks and reciever a base salary(because of my 59 college credits i start out with a good salary) plus a 20,000 dollar bonus for Master & arms. When I Return, I can come back for 2nd semester of Springfield College and complete my degree the next 2 years in which I then enter fulltime navy duty in 2010, and after serving my time as master at arms officer I will pursue the career as a cop after getting out of the navy. I will try to become part of the Navy Boxing team while I am in. or 2. I decide to pursue the career of Navy seal/swcc and recieve a 45,000 dollar contract when I pass the preliminary test. Upon completition of Bootcamp, Instead of returning to springfield I go right into active duty and I will be transferred to Coronoda California for 22 weeks for Navy Swcc training which is what I am interested in. It will be a long process after that, but If I stay sharp mentally and physically within a couple years I will become a navy swcc. With a career like that, not only will my pay be highly but I will virtually get to pick any job I want when I leave the navy. Right now I am leaning toward option # 2, and I plan to fully fulfill my dreams of becoming part of the navy special forces. My schedule recently as been exhausting with all the training. Right now My typically daily schedule goes like this Monday/Thursday 5 am wake up Roadwork 3-5 miles 6 am: Breakfast 7 am-8:30 am: Private Swimming Training with D 1 college head coach Noon- Lunch 4-7 Navy Seal Training conditioning/swimming at Hanscome Air base tue-Wed-Fri 5 am wake up Roadwork 3-5 miles 6 am: Breakfast 7 am-8:30 am: Private Swimming Training with D 1 college head coach Noon- Lunch 4-6 Boxing Training at Petronellis gym EXHAUSTING, but it will defintley prepare me mentally and physically when I attempt to become part of Navy Special forces. Unfortunetly I will not be posting as much anymore, and in the future I wont be posting anything at all for months/years so I would just like to say a early goodbyes to you all, it has been an amazing experience these past 2 years. Thanx to many of the older posters here, I picked up alot of Vocabluary on the way and it really helped me in my testing. Despite this being just a website, we have many good memories. i wish you guys the best of luck. God Bless. You all will sleep better at night knowing I will be willing to give my life for each and every one of you to defend our country. - Nick Gamble United States Navy Reserve Sailor This content is protected wcc/ This content is protected
My best wishes at whatever you try Nick, I am fifty and my wife and I are looking to retire in five years and live of our investments, so I am at the other end of the scale. My advice it to try the harder option 2 there is always a chance of failure but with every success and failure you come closer to understanding what you can and can't do.
If you want to be a cop, you pretty much need a college degree. I think Option #1 is a better path for that. It would be best to finish college now. Trying to finish college many years later is not an easy task even if you are still single. A few years from now, you could be married or have a child. Going back to college then would be difficult. In this day and age, the USA needs quality military people. Therefore, I am for anyone who wants to serve. Having said that serving in the Navy is not easy. You had better have a good idea of what you are getting yourself into. The bed's are not much bigger than ironing boards, and the food, well-- let's just say its fair at best. Some oceans and seas also have major waves. Do you mind waves? Most of the women on the boat are not interested in men. You really do not get to pick your assignment either. You could be stationed anywhere in the world. If you decent enough, the navy boxing or wrestling team might be a good niche. Here is the link to the site: http://www.mwr.navy.mil/mwrprgms/boxing06.htm
