They was his promoter before K2 they held him back for many years he could of broke into the scene way sooner.Strum their golden boy at the time paid them more money as long as they kept Golovkin away from him, it was boxing corruption at its worst. Many people don't realize that GGG would of been champion far sooner if universum prevented him fighting strum and zbik They had Golovkin on a proverbial leash they prevented him from fighting the champion strum for 5 years this is what GGG had to say after terminating the contract with them "The reason for this decision is that I've always been placed behind Felix Sturm and Sebastian Zbik by Universum. Our demands to fight against Felix Sturm or Sabastian Zbik have been always rejected on absurd grounds. Universum had no real plan or concept for me, they did not even try to bring my career forward. They would rather try to prevent me from winning a title as long as Sturm and Zbik are champions. Further more, bouts against well-known and interesting opponents were held out in prospect, but nothing happened. This situation was not acceptable. It was time to move forward." One thing is for sure no matter how you try to shut a fighter out the cream always rises to the top and today GGG is were he always wanted to be:bbb
Yep! He wasted his precious time in Germany fighting for a promoter who didnt believe in him and who didnt invest serious money in him.He fought on small fight cards for little money without any tv exposure. What a waist of time his years in Germany were! :-(
And even now Golovkin can't get anyone to fight him...............where is Jacobs, Saunders, Alvarez, Eubank, etc.?
Almost every fighter Universum ever worked with filed lawsuits against them, because of mismanagement, money issues and breach of contract. Wlad and Vitali filed lawsuits (and won), Sturm sued (and won), GGG left when contract expired. Zsolt Erdei sued and Universum went into bankruptcy. Universum hindered and slowed down many careers or left fighters out in the cold.
I'd say the opposite actually - wasn't it with Universum that he was maneuvered into being able to snatch low-hanging fruit in claiming & defending his first "world title" against the likes of Nunez & Tapia? (guys that realistically weren't close to even top 15 in the division) UBP got him to champion status the quick & easy (but not exactly respectable) way. K2 increased his credibility (in correlation with increased level of competition)
No. universum tried to prevent those matches since they were of the opinion that GGG was still under their contract. That also explains the locations those matches took place. He couldn' make those fights anywhere else and none of the bigger promoters would touch him during his dispute with Universum.
