I saw a poster v Mark Potter v Butterbean to fight in Blackpool night club. Is this the unlicensed circuit or some type of exhibition bout? Are there any good unlicensed fighter worth talking about? I have seen Dominic Negus, but he is hardly a Lenny McClean
The fights happened. Potter won in the first.... there are lots of ex pros on the circuit... and some talented lads. BBBC will take off your balls if you are seen at one.
A bunch of the unlicensed fighters train in a gym literally a three minute walk away from my house. The big name that trains there is John Smith, he's pretty big on the unlicensed circuit from what I can gather. I don't really follow it to know much about it though.
No, Negus knows the basics of boxing! I have never really felt the buzz of unlicensed fights. Reading about the brilliant Buchanan's brush with it, put me off. Boxing struggles to justify itself in today's society, without the added burden of the unlicensed variety IMO.
The cost of been a fighter these days is so much you don't really get hobby fighters anymore... your looking at a grand just to get going....
I met John in Vegas for the Calzaghe Hopkins fight. It was after the weigh-in. I heard that later that night him and couple of Cardiff fans cleared out one of the hotels out there.
