Unlikeliest Championships Luis Santana Santana won the WBC Super Welterweight Championship by DQ over future Hall of Famer Terry Norris. In his first defense of the belt, Santana won the rematch versus Norris, once again by DQ. Erik Aiken Aiken won the IBF World Featherweight Title against Brazilian Valdemir Pereira by DQ. Pereira, an undefeated fighter suffered his only professional loss against Aiken. Aiken, a career journeyman subsequentially lost the belt in his next fight against Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero. Francisco Quiroz Quiroz won the WBA Light Flyweight Title by KOing another former journeyman, Lupe Madera. Quiroz defended the title twice, winning once and then losing the belt. Quiroz finished his career with 5 consecutive losses, thus being a former Champion with a losing record. Isridro Garcia Garcia was a mere spectator, or so he thought, for what was supposed to be a fight between Alejandro Montiel and Jose Lopez. Montiel pulled out of the fight hours beforehand, and luckily the promoter asked Garcia (who was eating a donut at the time) to step in for Montiel. Garcia, borrowed trunks, protective cup, shoes and got a mouthpiece from the promoter. Garcia went out and decisioned Lopez over 12 Rounds to win the vacant WBO World Flyweight Title. Who are some other unlikeliest champions...???
I was not debating you, I was somewhat agreeing, but Ima looking for the guys that won by the most unlikeliest of circumstances (Guys like Spinks SD over Ali, etc)....!!!
Rocky Balboa. The guy was a career journeyman until Apollo Creed plucked him from obscurity because he liked the nickname the Italian Stallion. His whole life was a million to one shot... On a serious note, Gavin Rees, Stuart Hall and more recently Terry Flanagan. Mitchell must be looking at him holding that belt thinking WTF?
And you can add the WBA Welterweight title also...!!! So Rivera is technically a 2 Divison Unlikeliest Champion
MAUSSA was pitiful. Just pitiful. shows you about Vivian Harris. If Nichols didn't get stopped by that ref he may be WBC champ now ROFL
