Funny you mention Quarry he was quoted as saying he did not believe in luck he believed in preparation meets opportunity but I tend to agree he came around at the wrong time....I tend to think its Sibson who came around at the wrong time but Hamsho could very easily have replaced Sibbo in that situation. Timing is everything in life when we think about the near misses in life coupled with choices.

    Exactly. There were a lot.

But it's not transparently obvious why you consider them unlucky.

Example - John Mugabi. Why was he unlucky?

Zora Folley - ranked in the top ten consecutively from 1956 until his first and only title shot in 1967. Back then he had to keep fighting all the top fighters - incurring the odd loss along the way - with the hopes of a title shot. Today he would have only had to get one or two decent wins and then sit back and wait for your title shot at one of the 4 champs. A crying shame how he was avoided.

haha! He was only 'world champion' because he was in a VERY weak division where they pass the parcel amongst bums ( and it still is) , hence why your mate Amir Khan, Gavin Rees and and a endless huge list of other poor and average fighters became 'world champions', any other division and no way would they have.
